You’re doing God’s work, Liv. Thank you.

Just take a break once in a while…you’ll end up with PTSD.

Probably means the sunny south east, Costa del Wexford.

There are dozens of recent articles discussing the potential re-emergence of ISIS given the developments of the last few months in Syria.

Interesting time to be purging the FBI…

LA Times is owned by a billionaire owner with no background in journalism who has become increasingly publicly involved in the paper’s content, including the decision to nix its ed board’s endorsement for Harris at the last minute

Well, that’s the CIA’s remit. FBI is predominately internal to the US. Unless an investigation involving US citizens or permanent residents necessitates an external check

True, but it was heavily criticised after 9/11 for several failures (as was the CIA of course).

Can’t imagine the brain drain going on now is improving its agility or capacity to respond to complex threats.

It was a big yet under reported problem after his first administration. This sort of culling of institutional knowledge will take more than a generation to repair.

I get the argument that government is broken in some serious ways, but you dont fix it by getting rid of everyone who knows where the break points are and replacing them with people who have no idea what they are doing.

Issues around 9/11 intelligence were mostly related to lack of coordination among intelligence agencies. We think of the CIA as our “intelligence agency” but in reality we have about 20 different agencies who all do this work and at the time not only were they not talking to each other but were competitive and very territorial. This is where the office of the DNI came from, as a way to force the agencies to work together. Of course we are now on track to have an unqualified conspiracy theorist with ties to Assad lead that office.

Nice that you can remove any challenge or investigative capacity for internal corruption.

Might be prudent to dig out 1984 as research material.

Hedge funds have bet billions of dollars against Donald Trump’s America amid fears of a market crash.

Data from Goldman Sachs show there has been a surge in “short” bets against US stocks, meaning traders will make money when they fall in value, in a sign of growing concerns about the market.

And rightly so, because that was their responsibility. The attack was on US soil. They’re supposed to track any “persons of interest” the minute they step on US soil.

They’re well on track to surpass what was depicted in 1984

There is a famous essay from the 80s arguing that the advent of cable tv meant that Huxley’s Brave New World was more likely to be the dystopia we find ourselves in than Orwell’s 1984 - so much information that people have no idea how to sort the wheat from the chaff and end up as mindless slop consuming morons.

As you sow, so you reap.

All empires in human history have had a rise followed by a fall.

Every. Single. One.

Trump is only taking advantage of conditions that allowed his rise. But he seems most likely to tip the US over the edge.

And I take no pleasure whatsoever in saying this. Quite the opposite.

Karoline Leavitt , White House Press Secretary, on the energy effects of the trade war Trump is starting with Canada: “They want you to panic, but President Trump wants you to remember Jesus didn’t have electricity either and he did just fine,”

You know, that is probably not as reassuring as she thinks it is for some
