Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 2)

During the election I was told that I shouldn’t express my views on US politics because I don’t live there.
Today we have seen yet another example of why US elections are so important for people outside the country.
This is why I desperately hoped Trump would lose.

During the campaign, Trump promised no taxes on social security, overtime, or tips. None of those three elements are included in the House or Senate bills the Republicans are moving forward.

You be careful now, he’ll get the new sheriff onto you.

Except that there are potential new tax cuts on top of the expiring TCJA as well.

Medicare and Social Security are not touched for now, but SNAP and Medicaid ARE on the chopping block.

As for people like Oren Cass, they are in the minority and you can look no further than state governments to see that nothing about the GOP has changed - the state GOPs are still running their states the same way as before 2016 in terms of economic and welfare policies. Like, plenty of red states have not yet expanded Medicaid.

It was always a safe bet that if Trump won,he would surround himself with “yes” people.seems he has gone far beyond that, most of his nominations seem to be clueless and in some cases just plain thick.Vance rushing off to Munich to tell everyone what they need to do is assuredly a really good way of getting backs up,and doing the unthinkable, cosying up to the AfD seems like a great way of trying to isolate yourself, but of course Trump has been sent by the guy upstairs to sort us all out so it must be right.
Parallels being drawn with Chamberlain over appeasement, are wide of the mark as he was trying to avoid a war, which does not seem the case with Trump et al,just now.

I really think that they have identified Europe as a major ideological enemy with their woke democratic ideals and socialist welfare systems. The extreme right hate the Scandinavian model of high tax, strong welfare, liberal values.
Trump’s puppet masters are clearly engaged in a war on all their perceived enemies and have no limits to the lengths they’re prepared to go to to promote their fascistic ideas.
Never mind alliances that have been nurtured for over 80 years, all that matters is the destruction of democracy and the establishment of despotic totalitarian regimes with the US at their head.
This is even worse than I feared.

Quite obvious that Putler runs the country now.

But muh transgender!

Seen the Vance speech now. It really was beyond idiotic.

Helped you out a little there.

I mean if you want to insult us, at least have the courtesy of not doing it in such an idiotic way.

I don’t know if idiotic is the word I’d use. Being lectured on free speech by a fascist, on European soil no less, was infuriating.

It’d go against etiquette, but those attending should not have allowed him to spew his nonsense unchallenged.

Personally thought it was too dumb to be infuriating. We knew they love their authoritarian friends and hate us, but really, this is all you got?

Top Republican lawmakers were blunt about the need for Europe to step up.

“Hopefully the Europeans will recognize that their free ride on the coattails of America has come to an end,” Republican Senator John Cornyn of Texas said after Vance’s speech. “They’ve had it pretty good, and those days are over.”

Despite the outrage at Vance’s speech, Europe needs to do more for its defense.

And 51% of EU citizens have a negative opinion of its immigration policies v 16% positive
