Bit of a weird mixed messaging, to tell people to spend more on ther defence and then at the same time tell them that Russia and China aren’t the real threats, instead it’s internal. And the AfD Vance is campaigning for wants to bow down to Putin and spend less on Ukraine’s defence.

You should spend gazillions more on your defense (5%), in order to defend yourself from a threat that really isn’t a threat. Otherwise NATO is finished. You should totally spend that on American manufactured weapons, you know you do have a massive trade surplus with the US and that isn’t nice, which is why we have to put tariffs on you. Meanwhile we’ll negotiate with Putin without you having a say. You’ll finance the rebuilding and aid of Ukraine, because that’s your problem, you’ll also take in all the refugees. When Russia has rebuilt their military and attacks you, you can use all those nice US weapons to defend yourself, we probably won’t help you though. But that’s not really going to happen, because, again, Russia isn’t really a threat.
I think that’s basically the position that is being communicated.

Measles is the most infectious disease we know of and has awful consequences. We have just elevated someone to a position of authority in public health who rails against the vaccine at a time when we have an active outbreak in Texas in the context of worryingly reduced vaccination levels.
The signs of bird flu are starting to get more worrying, and anecdotal reports of regular flu being unusual bad are circulating, but we’re not entirely sure what is going on because communication from PH agencies has been stepped on and approaches to track it being gutted.

We have no such information problem in Canada, and the data is showing this as one of the worst flu seasons on record, despite the fact that some major population centers have not reached that stage. It is really just Toronto, Vancouver, and Quebec City of the major urban areas (granted, 2 of the 3 largest 3) that have hit the ‘widespread’ classification.
Fortunately, we have had very few observations of bird flu (hence cheap eggs…), but if there are regions of the US with similar flu numbers to Vancouver and Toronto, the opportunities for a flu-bird flu encounter are not trivial.

There were two in the crowd clapping. So it’s one of those two. Whatever, congratulations for building a propaganda post on the opinion of 1 out of hundreds and making it look as if many thought it reasonable. That is close to the definition of spin.
Also, let’s play the guessing game as to which country that diplomat came from. Could it be, could it be, could it possibly be from the Hard Nationalist and pro Kremlin party in Hungary ? Or Slovakia ? Maybe Poland ? It’s a pretty easy guessing game tbh. Not many it could be, since…you know, it was universally loathed by anyone not already convinced by the MAGA gospel.
