KKS is one of the worst neo-liberal ministers we’ve ever had. She is an absolute nightmare to be honest, and I’m absolutely not surprised by her statement.

More and more, we witness neo-liberalism and far right ideology going hand in hand. Why? Because neo-liberalism has a problem with democracy. Authoritarianism is a far more effective political vehicle for this ideology.

Not quite.

Fundamental to the neoliberal agenda is to turn the masses into unthinking drones, who will blindly do their masters’ bidding. Controlling the media plays a crucial role in this: now that it isn’t merely enough to run the traditional press, the billionaires now need to own and control all forms of media so that their brainwashing can continue unabated.

They don’t even need a majority to enforce their message, just a vocal minority. And, given that empty vessels make the most noise, having malleable simpletons (aka “useful idiots”) on their side is perfect for them.

So it isn’t so much that neoliberals have a problem with democracy; it’s that they want to control democracy and shape it in their own image.

There is a problem though: neoliberalism, over time, creates huge social problems and poverty/inequality , and so, it inevitably becomes less and less popular. Once that stadium is reached, there is no choice for those who profit from it but to get rid of democracy.

That’s where far-right populism comes in very handily, of course amplified and favoured by billionaires-owned media.

As I wrote a few days ago, key parts of the democratic structure in the US have already collapsed. We are yet to see the whole thing coming down, but it’s only a matter of time now.

Yeah @mods I think @toro should be banned at this point. He’s clearly trying to seed discontent.

That is because Trump and rational thought are total strangers to each other.

I do not agree with how the Trump administration is approaching foreign relations, but …

American Presidents have been asking Europeans (and Canadians) politely to spend more on their own defense and at least adhere to their commitment of spending 2% of GDP. American Presidents were told that Europeans (and Canadians) would do so. Yet for decades, Europeans (and Canadians) would not. They’d often promise to do so but it wouldn’t happen.

Americans, tired of being the global policemen, finally had enough. And instead of asking politely like they did for decades, they elected an asshole to tell the Europeans (and Canadians) in quite a rude manner that this was over.

What did you expect would happen? Why would Americans believe any of your proclamations when they’ve been so empty in the past? When you keep gaslighting someone, eventually they get tired of it and go home.

Maybe getting bitchslapped will be the best thing to happen to the Europeans (and Canadians)

Most of the world are fed up of america starting wars for the sake of proping up their arms manufacturers, let trump decide to lead them to war with china or any other fucker , and let nato / any other alliance tell them to fuck off from the 800 odd bases they have around the world …america will soon fade into irrelevance as the world is tired of their shit they cause just to place themselves in continuous wars so to prop up arms indusrtry.

World really would be better off if it ceased to exist

Most Americans are tired of it as well.

Trump’s deepest support was in areas that saw the highest casualties from foreign wars.

Then instead of making fucking stupid claims about canada , greenland etc which his way of expansion , threatening countries with tariffs unless they agree to his ridiculous demands and then demanding countries spend more of gdp on defence ( think it was @Hope.in.your.heart who mentioned basically so it gets funnelled to american companies) why dont america actually work genuinely towards treaties that guarantee peace with all relevant nations on equal footing that is genuinely affected by what ever crises emerges.

And then stop talking shit about moving Palestinians out of their homeland ; never to return just so they give israel carte blanche to do whatever they want to the region.

Its about time the world fucking grew up on so many things, continuous war etc and the cycle of wealth always going to those at the top.

And if the leading “nation” can not have a sensible discussion about achieving proper goals , then maybe the world should just ignore them full stop, and move towards brics or whatever replacement system can come to the front , because when the cold war ended this shit show of an ever eternal threat should have ended too, but no we squandered that chance and seem hell bent on pushing the world to the edge once more and tbh its getting tiresome of the same old cunts making threats now as they did 30 / 40 years ago , with no real intent to anything other than keeping people in perpetual fear and having control.

@Limiescouse , @Hope.in.your.heart , you are both correct. As the inequality grows with the neoliberal agenda and the rich become richer and poor become poorer, control of the discourse and co-opting the democratic process remains key. The issue then becomes taking the attention off the ruling oligarchy and firmly on “the other”. Which is exactly what Vance was trying to do in his speech. Which is what Trump is doing so that Project 2025 can continue their work unabated.
Blame the immigrants, blame the refugees, blame anyone “non-white”, non-Christian, non-heterosexual, the socially disadvantaged, the poor, the progressive thinkers…anyone in their way to gaining total control and extracting maximum profit (the attack on the CDC for “causing the shutdown and slowing the economy”).
Democracy is basically just a shell at this point, completely hollowed out and meaningless. By controlling education and all forms of media (including social), the oligarchy lets people think they have a say while being in almost total control. They’ll just keep throwing out distractions to keep the public outrage going while going about maximising profit.
As @Hope.in.your.heart mentions, what’s happened to the US is the next stage. The facade of democracy eventually will become so brittle that it will start crumbling right in front of us. But this “us vs them” narrative/movement that the MAGA spin doctors have created is so effective that the MAGA crowd becomes all about winning even though they are actually self-harming.
I remember reading somewhere (during the time the likes of Bob Dole were running for the US presidency) that perennially poor midwestern Americans keep voting Republican, even the ones that keep saying that the economy is their primary driver for their choice, is because they all picture themselves as future millionaires and therefore don’t want to carry the tax burden that the democrats ask for. They don’t realise that it’s a complete fantasy for them, they’ll never get there.
MAGA has taken that sentiment and amplified it in all facets of their lives and made them think that they’re winning

Even though they’re actually losing. And in real time. It’s the ultimate cult! David Koresh would be proud!

It’s always easy to blame America for everything in the world, but perhaps the Europeans could start walking the talk rather than wagging and pointing fingers in your insufferable moral superiority. If you had been pulling your weight all these decades, people would still be listening to you.

ITM Europeans are still buying LNG from Russia. And then there’s this.
