I feel sick for Ukraine. Zelensky has been strong in the face of such adversity. He is a good leader. He has tried to defend his country against a huge bully. The arms they have received have only allowed them to do so much, and if the handbrake was taken off they would have bloodied Russia’s nose and probably even kicked its ass. But is has been a cagey old affair and they have not had a decisive victory they might have had.
Now Trump is back in power. He is a Russian asset. It is so clear. And the Republican government enable it.
The established order that has given us peace, for the most part, for 80 years, has been flipped on its head. Under Trump, America is not a reliable ally, and is in thrall to authoritarian despots. It is sickening.

It’s impossible to say for sure. Only the Kremlin and it’s secret services, those with the correct clearances, know for sure.
We can only speculate. Everything is so illogical, so all one can do is make assumptions. We know about the 90s, after the fall of the Soviet Union, that he had murky dealings with oligarchs and Siloviki and we know the Russians love to set up sex traps and other traps. But the details are speculative. Lots of RUMint, but nothing can be proven.

That is fair and true, but I wrote quickly. I did not for instance add that there is a lot of circumstantial evidence, as well as worrying reports from Western intelligence services, that they had compromised him and had an understanding with him. That alone is not smoking gun of course. But then you have the behavioural pattern as well, motives for strange behaviour etc.
But I can’t prove anything.

In hindsight, the French really missed a trick in 1778. They should have sat Benjamin Franklin down, suggested they might be willing to send some arms, maybe some naval support, and insist the United States sign over 50% of their mineral rights.

I don’t know, I have been starting to wonder if the British Empire should have just sought to make a White Peace with France, so that it could have focused on crushing the little uprising in the colony.
