I find it so terrible how his followers are now celebrating this, how America’s voice has changed in such a short time to just malice, resentment, betrayal and megalomania.

He understands the implications. All the buffoonery is there to mask the the greater implications of gutting America’s ability to do, well, anything. There’s a pattern in all this designed to deteriorate and destroy their ability to project power externally while also paralysing and undermining their internal structures. At the same time, the population is divided and all but powerless to stop the decay especially given that large swathes are gleefully cheering the insanity on.
At best the US finds itself a non player striken by internal dissent while the world realigns, at worst the descent into facism takes hold and leads a global anarchy. I’m tending to lean to the former because I don’t think a rogue US is what Putin and Xi want; they want a compliant and dumbfounded US under their thumb and control which is exactly what Trump is providing.

America spent 80 years building this position, and has prospered greatly from this soft power, its a position the american government have courted and maintained…the fall out from having no exit plan will be castostrophic…i dont think the american government get to just point at a set of budgetory figures and rip the bandaid off without consequences to its reputation

I laughed and cried at the same time watching this, I needed that because everything is so depressing right now.
And as it stands, it’s gone for good. Even with a new president, they will be seen as an unreliable partner with a fragile government.

Stock market’s gone to shit the last 2 weeks
Companies like Google, meta, nvidia etc have gone down quite a fair bit in the last 2 weeks compared to about a month ago , even after deepseek , nvidia picked itself up now its around $114 ( was something like $144 before deepseek, picked up to around $130 odd shortly after)
That’s a topic for a whole different thread, but the US is generally down, which was the point of my post, but some Asian markets seem to be okay (RIP Nikkei)
