I was listening to a conversation yesterday offering some moderate push back on the criticism of the law firm that recently publicly caved to Trump, arguing these were not real concessions. For example, the pro bono work committed to is a fraction of what they already do, and this agreement allowed them to still pick the cases they picked up, and so they will just able to take the cases they were going to take and claim these were part of the Trump deal. But these are still concessions that Trump can claim as a victory to the public. And that is enough. It is because perceptions are being created that Trump can bully his way to these wins, even if they start out as only superficial, that the behavior is emboldened.

Good on the Atlantic for calling the administration’s bluff, and putting the entire ‘unclassified’ discussion into the public domain. They brazenly lied to Congress to apply an additional layer of criminality to their incompetence.

Honestly there is a bravery there that needs to be commended and stood up for. The Trump admin has already taken an official line on a different case that a news report was based on an illegal leak of classified information they were criminally investigating, but that the story was also fake. This administration is perfectly capable of criminalizing this publication while simultaneously rejecting claims the info in the chat was classified.

So, if they try to pursue the Atlantic for publishing the full text chain they have just proved that she openly and willingly lied to the Senate hearing.

I am not disagreeing with the logic, the logic those of us in the real work are bound by. I am just pointing out they have already pursued cases where they are violating that logic.

Anything republican needs to be put in the trash. It’s important that all these outrages are linked together - the common thread is the republican party and all who remain members, give it support or succor are no longer fit to be part of the body politic.
