Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 2)

I have read this several times now, is there a possibility that it is going to be so close?

I suspect it is not getting her through that is the issue, but the fact that she would no longer be in the House. There would be a special election for the district in a few months.

But that in itself is amazing. She won that district by over 20 points, and they are afraid to weaken their majority by risking a special election?

She used to be relatively normal for a Republican. I wonder if the thinking is that district might advance a non maga candidate out of the primary who won’t be as reliable a vote for them once in the house as this roadie has turned out to be?

Possibly - or that the economic base has been damaged by the tariffs and a Democrat might have a shot. The largest employer is probably Fort Drum (of course, rank and file may not be impressed with Hegseth). After that, there are a lot of towns that rely on border-related business or cross-border tourism. Doesn’t seem that likely it would produce that large of a swing.

This is just funny…but the twat should just resign. He voted to abdicate that constitutional responsibility.

It has become borderline socially unacceptable in much of the country to travel to the US except when required for business.

Just looked on the TSA website. No wonder they’re trying to get rid of it:

Words the MAGA crowd wouldn’t know the meaning of.

This is one where the Dems should not get caught reflexively defending institutions. They fell into the trap the last few years of reflexively rushing to defend bad things simply because Trump was attacking them. It is bad politics to be unflinching defenders of the establishment even for the bits that are unpopular, and it is not supposed to be what the Democratic party stands for. If Republicans want to take down something that is bad, then take the opportunity.

To that point, the TSA IS fucking shit. If it was effective the arguments about civil liberties and how unpleasant it is would have some counterweight. But it isn’t. It fails pretty much every test it is subject to and 20 years on is still shit.

That would not be a surprise. I remember seeing a report on a B&B owner in Maine who had built his business on repeat bookings from Canada, and he showed the reporter the booking cards from US travellers compared to Canadian travellers that had cancelled their bookings due to Trump, and he has literally lost more than 90% of his business

Why not,he wants to isolate himself and the US,This would finish the job he has started.

Does this mean the rest of us can stop all the performative bullshit when we get on planes? FFS, I have to take my belt off to fly from Montreal to Halifax because of American concerns.
