Well sure. A huge chunk of the blame deserves to fall on other countries who couldnât ramp up their manufacturing to compete with Chinaâs machine.
But the westâs carte blanche to allow China to get the foothold needs to be questioned. Why was China allowed to be propped up ? That was because US saw China as something they can get at USSR.

I wonder if Musk might actually be the one person who can help turn this around? He is close to being very explicit in calling out Trump. Musk put him in the Whitehouse and has been a person Trump has admired and spoken of highly. To the degree that holds, Musk might be able to engineer a different path to this economic meltdown.
Arguably what we are seeing is a decoupling between Trump and Musk. I suppose it was always a matter of time. Trump has always had a thing about tariffs and maybe Musk is now on the outside looking in?
Nah, all he cares about is to bankrupt the automobile industry so that his Tesla brand gets the protectionism.
Itâs for the uneducated masses in his own country, and maybe also for the uneducated masses elsewhere. There are a lot of them. He doesnât care about being rebuked by an educated minority.

And really wanted to start the Nixon vs Trump comparision.
Trump still has a way to go to plumbing the depths that Nixon/Kissinger managed to go to.
But at this point , with hindsight (on the Nixon era) , Nixon is still comparitively the bigger evil.
No doubt Trump will overtake him soon (and pretty soon) going as per how things stand.

Blame is very blunt and unhelpful framing here. Thatâs like saying little Kelly from the girls high school tennis team can be blamed for just not trying harder to beat Serena Williams in a tennis match.
Itâs easy to say a US government should have reacted quicker and more strongly to the abuses of China, but to what alternative? To pretend there were alternatives in countries that didnt exist? To increase sanctions on Chinese made products making everything more expensive in a way that at the time would have political suicide at home? Like it or not, lots of geopolitics plays out in the context of the domestic politics each of the actors are subject to.

There is no comparison between a normal realpoltik and geopolitical actor of a Superpower, like Nixon, and Trump. The entire comparison is beyond dumb and there is also the context of the Cold War.
Every (with maybe a very few exceptions) state leader in the world wishes Trump was Nixon.

Everything Trump does fails by its own objectives. We were on track for this to come back down towards the 5% mark had we just have continued on the path we were.

Trump has lived his entire life shaping reality by just saying things that arent true until the world just accepts it as true. This is now what is happening with the presidency. Except you can convince people that the gaudyness of Trump Tower is classy and the mark of a wealthy high status individual. No amount of just saying the US is the best place to manufacture your shit will make it true though
