Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 2)

I work in the institutional investment business. I run a department for one of the largest financial institutions in the country. I’ve met both Scott Bessent and Steve Marin. Bessent called a few years ago and I politely rejected his offering.

I will tell you that the last week has demonstrated the sheer utter incompetence of the Trump administration on levels I’ve never seen before.

I’ve been watching the bond basis trade and swap spreads blow out to the point that this one guy’s - Trump’s - embarrassing ruminations completely obliterate markets. My MAGA friends in the business are done with him.

I don’t know what is going to happen in the future. But Trump has damaged America to the point where I don’t blame any country for not trusting America for a long, long time.

What I hope is that Europe and the rest of the world pivot towards a pro-growth agenda so they are less reliant on America and China.

Listening to this bootlicker, Howard Lutnick, on Fast Money, just blows my fucking mind on the levels of incompetence propagated by these mercantilist autarkic no-nothings.

Thank you for the personal and honest appraisal of the situation.

One can only hope that Republicans of a more sensible variety can find a spine and curtail the monster they have enabled.

This confirms my suspicion that Trump and his croonies are playing the Stock exchange levels at will, enriching themselves while they do that. It’s so simple for them.

My gut says Trump is being played by those behind him. I dont think he’s smart enough on his own but I also don’t think he wanted to reverse the tariff policy. So there’s a weird disconnect there or I’m underestimating him.

I don’t think that you become president of the US if you are truly stupid. He has a form of malevolent intelligence imo, entirely based on his big ego of course.

More like the reverse. A good level of stupidity or at least being able to play dumb is a key requirement to get anywhere in US politics these days.

I dont know. Before you think of all the other stupid stuff he’s said/ done, he clearly doesn’t know how tariffs work or he’s a damn good actor. But then smart enough to play the stock market with it?

I struggling to believe he could dream it up on his own.

Live in hope ,but you are right.
This appalling bit of shit shows a lot of Americans why politicians cannot and should not be trusted, with a roll of shithouse paper, let alone a country.

True, all he sees is money, absolutely nothing else.
