Thread is full of comments from people who have decided not to travel to the USA anymore.
He has massively increased his bombing of Yemen, and as he did in his first term did so by loosening restrictions on what could be targeted and did away with after action reporting. For as indefensible as the Biden admin’s approach to Gaza was, Trump has somehow been worse (quite predictably, despite the “it cannot be worse” claims pre election). He is saber rattling indiscriminately against foe and friend alike

Aaron Mate is if not quite a conspiracist, he is a committed polemical contrarian who shares lots of ground with conspiracists. And Blumenthal has never found a story that he cannot position as “US bad” and so is similarly polemical and has been pushing this angle from the beginning.

Even that isn’t really an evidence based decision. It may be for the best, but if it is it will be for the wrong reasons, driven by a bad approach to understanding science. It is just one guy forcing a separate department to abide by his ideological opinion. This would be bad if this came from from on high from the head of the FDA. But this is coming from HHS. This is not what the head of HHS is supposed to be occupying themselves with.
You also see the incoherence in his attitude with his belief in the value of using mythelene blue as a prophylactic supplement.

The bigger bit though is in referencing “my lawyer” he is again presenting government lawyers as being his. Through his first term there were reports of frequent fights with the White House Counsel having to repeatedly remind him that he represented the institution of the presidency, not the president as a person, and that might mean opposing the president to protect the presidency. Trump has seemingly won that fight to the point that it is no longer even news worthy when he speaks this way

It’s the US. They don’t need one. They just say any old shit and pretend its valid and 3/4 of the country immediately hop on board.
I was still relatively newly arrived (about 5 years, but still didnt consider it home at that point and very much resisting Americanization) when the Iraq invasion talks started up and remember feeling like I was taking crazy pills at the shit people were buying from the administration and the willingness to just parrot talking points that obviously made no sense.

This is one of these things the MAGAs is calling just a “meme.” We saw how well that denial worked out when he had been talking about a global trade war for years. Difference is, it won’t be so easy flip-flopping while conducting an invasion.
