How is it Americans donât see this prick is a total loser?
Trump has been dominating (more or less) US politics for a decade now, thereâs unspeakably dumb shit coming out of this dude every day, I have little hope in his supporters figuring this out until it gets really really bad for them personally. Maybe not even then.
Have you seen the following of the European Trumpists? Itâs hardly just Americans. There are dumb fucks everywhere.
Iâve heard French politicians and TV news presenters come out with similar shit and I presume if they say this type of nonsense there are people who gobble it up.
The media/s today are a massive problem as they are incapable of âcorrectingâ this shit or are just simply complice. Rich fuckers.
No emoji from you for my post am I to assume you donât agree with me?
I mean itâs evident that American is where itâs all happening at the moment, no?
@RedArmada has a point though. There is also a part of people in Europe lapping up the absolute stupidities coming out of the mouth of people who admire Trump and want to follow up with similar policies. I guess itâs only the proportion which is still a bit different.
For me, it all comes down to education. The majority of well-educated people wonât fall in for the likes of Trump. It seems that there is a genuine education problem in the States though, even worse than in Europe. Too many people believe fallacious, untrue arguments without checking them for truth.
Of course, you are right that Trump acts like a symbol and a leading example for all these European right-wing protofascists we can see popping up everywhere. They look at what he does and think âHey, it works for him, Iâll do the same.â
There is also a so large influx of relatively intelligent young people that are attracted to the extreme individualism found in Right Wing politics. Too large to ignore. These are attracted to Musk, but also those Romanian vulgar mysoginistic brothers and MAGA. We have a growing such segment in Norway and you see it in many other European countries.
This comes in tandem with dying and/or struggling Social Democratic parties that have lost the grassroot to the right wing, because the man on the floor (now, these usually have low education, but is a group that traditional left leaning parties cannot afford to lose) is attracted to nationalism for a variety of reasons.
⌠and letâs not forget this is the US Politics thread.
I was staying on topic yet even so admitted that stuff is going down in Europe.
Such replies are just a distraction.
Say something about Trump and the US and Europe gets dragged in. Thatâs distraction, whataboutism point or not!
I wasnât criticizing your post, merely trying to answer your question (more to myself than to anyone else to be honest): how can so many people fall in for this bad joke of a guy? As said, for me itâs due to a lack of proper political education.
Better education is probably also the way out of this, going forward.
I donât agree. I wish you were right, and this was all a media fabrication, but the reality is that Poland has just elected a Trumpist president, Romania came extremely close to doing so and Hungary and Slovakia are already being ruled by pro Trump administrations. AfD is arguably the second most popular party in Germany and Le Penâs proclivities are well known.
The epicentre of idiocy may be in the US, but Europe is quick to follow suit.
None of that is what I said.
I agreed that thereâs a problem in Europe and elsewhere.
What I disagree with is pointing the issue to elsewhere when it is evident that a problem exists in the US.
Thereâs a thread for Europe and if the subject was mentioned there I know a thing or to about whatâs happening in France (and the main perpetrators are not Le Pen so much as the âRepublican Rightâ).
However as stated this is not the thread for debating Europe. As seen this has taken up a moment on here because you needed to point a finger elsewhere.
And no I havenât a clue how to stop this uneducated nonsense from being perpetuated. Even my own Dad comes out with the shit probably because he reads the Daily Torygraph an old person who you might think is educated and itâs scary.
I think there has to be an element of ego death to it. He has always been absurd and an embarrassment, but he is now so much worse than even the moron who got excited about the idea of injecting bleach, or who adjusted a hurricane path. But it feels like people have invested so much of themselves into following him that there is psychological damage involved in them seeing reality. If someone stayed with him after Jan 6th then nothing will shake them.
Of course that doesnt explain people who were not fully board in 2020 but somehow became fully committed afterwards.
EDIT: Although that second bit is probably heavily related to the emotional commitment those people have for Trump haters being wrong. They anti-anti Trumped themselves into a legit Pro-Trump position
Any reason to leave out Trump friend Farage/Reform and their current polling?
AfD are more ideological but unfortunately theyâre not nearly as plain dumb as Trump.
No reason, he slipped my mind.
And now that Iâve looked it up, I see that Reform is polling higher than LabourâŚ
All thanks to social media. Trump/MAGA, Reform, AfD, among others, all flooding X, TikTok with an aggressive social media strategy full of falsehoods, simple solutions to complex situations, and any form of critical thinking is thrown out, or pinned as âwokeâ, part of the Liberal agenda etc. Factor in foreign powers with their bot farms, pumping comment sections on Facebook, X, Youtube with more hate, and here we are.
