Riding in The “Beast”, waving to the crowd

Few visitors from democracies get this treatment by Trump. From the top of my head, can’t remember anyone (but I may be mistaken there)

Press Conferance now in a few minutes. I dread it. But the damage has already been done in the private meeting in the car and with the reception Vladimir Vladimorich got in the US. It’s the reception of a greatly admired and respected ally, not that of a neutral great power, far less that of a rival.

Russian media will also be far more useful than US media to gauge the mood and what they talk about, due to superior access. I recomend Tass.

Well, it’s not as if it comes by surprise. We have known this since some time now. There have been many lows in recent times, and there will be many others going forward.

Russian Ambassador Calls Atmosphere at Putin-Trump Talks Positive

Moscow. August 16. INTERFAX.RU - The atmosphere at the talks between Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump was positive, said Russian Ambassador to Washington Alexander Darchiev.

“The atmosphere is generally positive, we will now hear specific results first-hand,” he said in an interview with Pavel Zarubin, host of the program “Moscow. Kremlin. Putin” on the Russia 1 TV channel (VGTRK), an excerpt from which he posted on his Telegram channel.

Describing Russian-American relations, the diplomat said: “We are trying, we are working. So far there have been no major breakthroughs and, apparently, there cannot be any. We are trying, first of all, in the visa sphere, but you see for yourself that changes are happening very, very slowly.”

“There are two other major issues: the return of the six Russian diplomatic properties that were de facto confiscated, without which the resolution of other issues is difficult, and secondly, this is our initiative, which we believe would contribute to real normalization - the restoration of direct air traffic between our countries,” he continued.

Answering the question of whether there has been any reaction from Washington to these proposals, Darchiev said: “There is, the Russian side has prepared the relevant documents, they are being discussed… I hope that after this summit there will be an impulse to speed up this work.”

The head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, Kirill Dmitriev, also positively assessed the progress of Russian-American negotiations.

I was going to say Port Talbot but decided that was too parochial.

A senior White House official leaks bombshell news that the administration has created a secret “scorecard” to rate 553 companies and trade associations based on how much they supported Donald trump’s disastrous “big, beautiful bill.”

And it gets even more dystopian…

Speaking to Axios, the source revealed that the scorecard factors in “social media posts, press releases, video testimonials, ads, attendance at White House events” as well as other “engagement” connected to the “One Big Beautiful Bill” which is nicknamed “OB3” inside the White House.

“The organizations’ support is ranked as strong, moderate or low,” reports Axios.

Some “examples of good partners” include Airlines for America, AT&T, Cisco, Delta, DoorDash, and the Steel Manufacturers Association.

The idea is that Trump officials can reference the scorecard whenever a company makes a request of the federal government. Those who have toed the party line will of course get preferential treatment from the infamously transactional Trump.

The data on the scorecard is accessible by White House senior staff and the official stated that it “helps us see who really goes out and helps vs. those who just come in and pay lip service.”

Axios further reports that the scorecard is “an evolving document” and will be adjusted based on how companies support or fail to support future Trump initiatives.

“If groups/companies want to start advocating more now for the tax bill or additional administration priorities, we will take that into account in our grading,” the official said.

It seems quite possible that this information was intentionally leaked by Trump himself, through his senior official, in order to inform companies of the existence of the list. Now, that it’s existence is public knowledge many corporations — who are focused on profits at the cost of everything, even our democracy — will aggressively seek to curry favor with Trump by championing his destructive policies.

It’s not an exaggeration to say that this is by far the most corrupt administration in American history.

So it looks like another ritual humiliation is in store for Zelensky on Monday at the WH. That piece of shit Trump is likely to strongarm him again to deflect attention from his utter incompetence. He’s already saying the best way to end the war in Ukraine is “to go directly to a peace deal, not ceasefire.” , which probably means the ceding of territory that he said was out of the question on Thursday.

Lord deliver us.

Scoop: White House loyalty rating for companies

image
Mike Allen

The West Wing has created a scorecard that rates 553 companies and trade associations on how hard they worked to support and promote President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” a senior White House official tells Axios.

Why it matters: Trump works transactionally, and companies have rushed to pay demonstrative homage. Now, senior aides will have data to consult when considering corporate requests.

Factors in the rating include social media posts, press releases, video testimonials, ads, attendance at White House events, and other engagement related to “OB3,” as the megabill is known internally.

  • The organizations’ support is ranked as strong, moderate or low.
  • Axios has learned that “examples of good partners” on the White House list include Uber, DoorDash, United, Delta, AT&T, Cisco, Airlines for America and the Steel Manufacturers Association.

How it works: The data, which is being circulated to White House senior staff, will be used as a reality check when someone from K Street calls and says, for instance, that they’d “love to catch up — was so great working with you to pass the big, beautiful bill.”

  • The ranking “helps us see who really goes out and helps vs. those who just come in and pay lip service,” the official said.
  • Separately, a running list on the White House website tracks announcements of “Trump Effect” investments in U.S. manufacturing, production, and innovation.

What’s next: We’re told this is an evolving document, with the organizations’ engagement on other presidential initiatives to be added.

  • “If groups/companies want to start advocating more now for the tax bill or additional administration priorities, we will take that into account in our grading,” the official said.

Zoom in: Companies on the White House “good” list took a variety of approaches to supporting the megabill, often singling out specific benefits for their industry.

  • DoorDash deliverer Maliki Krieski of Ripon, Wisconsin, wore a red “DoorDash Mom” T-shirt as she stood behind President Trump at a White House event promoting the bill the week before final votes. She later plugged the “no tax on tips” provision in a Fox News Digital interview.

  • “No Tax on Tips is now law,” Uber cheered on a blog for drivers. “No Tax on Tips, first proposed by President Trump during his 2024 presidential campaign, is a proposal to change how tips are taxed. Now that this has become law, you won’t pay federal income taxes on your tips that are reported to the IRS on a 1099 form.”

  • Chuck Robbins — CEO of Cisco, who’s also chair of Business Roundtable, the association of top U.S. CEOs — posted on X: “Encouraged by the House #reconciliation package’s corporate tax provisions. By preserving a competitive rate, retaining FDII, & restoring immediate R&D expensing, this bill will strengthen America’s pro-growth tax system — allowing US companies to better innovate & invest at home.”

  • AT&T announced “plans to more quickly build fiber infrastructure thanks to pro-investment policies in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act passed by Congress.”

Airlines for America (A4A), which represents major U.S. airlines, issued a statement saying it “strongly supports the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and applauds the inclusion of a critical investment of $12.5 billion in modernizing the Federal Aviation Administration’s air traffic facilities, systems and infrastructure.”

  • United and Delta issued statements of support for the air-traffic provision.
  • The Steel Manufacturers Association said the megabill “will allow manufacturers to buy new equipment, to further their lead in research and development, to raise wages and improve employee benefits. Most importantly, this legislation will allow our members to create more jobs.”

Need to make a policy of avoiding these fascist sympathising companies.

Yes I agree… Bringing awareness to a bigger audience though, to what is actually happening, might also be beneficial in the long run… The only way to do that, is to throw these facts and figures out there, so people can adjudge events themselves.

One of the ideas they pushed during his first term was that it was “an accomplishment” that he opened dialogue with Kim Jong Un. “Obama never did that”…right, because it was a choice, not because it was out of his reach. It is a possibly defensible direction to have taken. After all, Obama made the point about needing to speak to our enemies, but to what end? What did you accomplish by opening this dialogue?

As always Trump gets credited by his own people for actions with no thought to or requirement for there to be positive outcomes for the US. This is right out that playbook.
