But yes, twitter is awful but so is all social media. Even so, twitter is the best source for a lot of news that MSM will never report, or report months, weeks, days after. Useful to me, anyway. But I am pretty good at filtering, I suppose.

Iām a bit torn on the approach Gavin Newsom is taking. On the one hand, it seems childish and beneath a serious politician, who may well be in the running to be the next President.
On the other hand, serious-minded Democrats who have tried to engage via usual mores and political strategies have been steam-rollered by Trump.
So on balance I am concluding that Newsom should keep going. He is getting under their skin more than anyone else, and he is being noticed more than anyone else. He is getting a message across, albeit in a childish-soundbite sort of way, but that appears to be the arena we have, after years of dumbing down.
If he has to go there in order to disrupt Trump and hopefully win, so be it. The way he runs the State of California is as a serious and accomplished leader, and if he ever gets the Presidency he will bring some dignity back to the office, but in the meantime, he has concluded this is the best way to fight Trump and MAGA and Iām not sure heās wrong.
Is that really true? Is he getting under their skin, or is he just playing their game, and thus taking part in further dumbing everything and everyone down?
I canāt see people who voted for Trump last time suddenly tell themselves: āHey, this guy is just as vulgar and provocative as Trump, Iāll vote for him and the Democrats next timeā.
Maybe Iām wrong though? Are we already at the point at which a political discourse becomes a contest in vulgarity?

I think there is an important part of the strategy is the distinction between his coms team and himself. I donāt mean that in the sense that a politician is not responsible for his comms team, but that it is clearly a two pronged approach where Newsome the man maintains a professional approach.
One of the lessons we saw from Trumpās two primary campaigns, one of which he was not even technically participating in, is that refusing to engage his absurdity for fear of getting dirty is a losing strategy. They all kept fighting each other trying to be the best of the rest and hoping that people see Trumpās absurdity and DQ him. It didnāt happen. Neither time.
What Newsome is doing now is Im sure part of his own strategy to win, but has the added advantage of giving other Dems the room to not get dirty and let him take those hits. I wish this wasnt where we are, but this is what Trump does. He gives people no good options and people who refuse to acknowledge that get chewed up and spat out by the version of politics Trump has created, with help from a willing press.
FWIW I cannot take seriously concerns this is further dumbing down the discourse. The discourse is in the toilet and this is satirizing it not playing the same game. He is not trying to win voters by being as bad as Trump is. He is laying bare how absurd it is that a moron man baby is president. None of this is supposed to be taken seriously. Again the difference is Trump the man is no different to his comms. Newsome is personally still carrying himself as we expect a pol to do, but is just a comms strategy to show the emperor is not wearing clothes

I donāt like the game, but Newsom is playing it better than most, giving some back. He remains a serious politician with gravitas and a solid grasp of policy.
