Iâve been somewhat disturbed by the level of interest Iâve seen of it in the UK. I get interest in it as a political assassination, but itâs more the pre-existing level of knowledge of who Kirk was that I find disturbing. I get people in other countries having a level of understanding of what is happening in US politics, but it is extremely odd that foreigners would have this sort of knowledge of the commentators and the people adjacent to our politics. That indicates how much politics as entertainment has crept into our culture and that is extremely bad direction.
I guess I knew that already, but this whole incident has really driven home the extent of it.

Lots of talk that they have the suspect in custody, his dad turned him in, and Trump is calling for a quick trial and the death penalty. That last part seems close to a lynching.
On a related note, Charlie Kirk was, and his followers are, very much pro-life.
At that point I am troubled by the lack of joined up thinking. How is advocating for his execution pro-life? If you believe that human life is sacred and precious, how does the death penalty (state sanctioned murder one might argue) fit with that?

Iâd never heard of him, but I do find that UK news coverage is very US biased compared to neighbouring countries like France, Germany or even Ireland.

I think this is one of those cases of how the SM algorithms have unified the english speaking culture a bit meaning that significant segments of Oz, Canada, and the UK are often fighting the USâ culture wars.

MAGA still insist it was liberals who tried to execute Trump despite no evidence to the support it and what crumbs of info we have (still very odd we know so little) suggesting he was coming from the other side. Likewise their characterization of Luis Mangione as a lefty, who was someone far closer to the Rogan manosphere right than he was a lefty. They just refuse to accept, in all their frothy anger about everything, how much anger and hate they gin up among their own people about their own people.
When you look at who disliked Kirk, sure he was largely despised on the left because he was a toxic, hateful oik. But the Fuentes crowd FUCKING HATED him (internecine conflict is complicated), and hating on him was one of the things that brought such a fringe figure like Fuentes to prominence. You have Loomer turning on him recently over perceived wavering support of Trump something she thought was him biting the hand that fed him - he was ungrateful person who needed to corrected. He had also started publicly questioning the US support for Israel in these military actions, something that was picked up on in Israel and did not go down well with a section of the right. Of those 4 groups (âthe leftâ, the groypers, the people Loomer speaks to, and Israel), which is the least likely to have taken this sort of action?

I knew him, but Iâm probably not representative for most Germans. As mentioned before, if youâre familiar with the US right strategies and talking points, you can often easily identify how some German right-wingers copy them, sometimes itâs basically more a less a translation with a bit of national references thrown in. So we get more of this indirect influence.

I guess this is why there are conspiracies being pushed that Mossad took him out.
It would appear that he has been caught because he was turned in by his father, who is a minister. It also appears that he used only ground transport, and may simply have been trying to go to ground. Given the leanings of the region, he almost certainly comes from a right-wing family. I suspect we will find he has been radicalized on an unconventional vector (Fuentes is a good shout), or possibly was in some kind of emotional crisis.
The investigation itself is leaking like a sieve, presumably because of the unqualified MAGA types all around it desperate to look competent and in the know

Mossad actively seeded a popular reputation of their ability to do this. Their retribution ops Nazi hunting and against Black September are lauded and propagandized. They go out of their way to make sure people know that if Israel thinks you are a problem they have the ability and willingness to get to you no matter where you are or who you are.

The head of the division who would have led this investigation, a Pakistani American woman, was fired by Patel about a month ago. No real reason was given for the firing other than a vague ânot a good fit for the officeâ despite her being incredibly highly regarded with words such as âlegendaryâ being used about her. It is difficult to see it as anything other than an anti-DEI purge to get rid of an undeserving brown woman.

Briahna Joy Gray is a moron. People are free to take issue with bits of what is in that article and especially the headline, but this piece was not about applauding Kirk. It was a call for libs to learn from Kirkâs success and show the balls to go into places to engage with people where you know they are going to disagree with you. It was a piece about a missing tactic in the Dem tool kit not a hagiology of Kirk.
And Ezra is not the guy to throw criticisms at about the Palestinian cause.

The newly formed Paramount Skydance, the play thing of a nepobaby son of the worldâs newly ranked richest man, is now in the process of trying to buy WB-Discovery. Despite plans already underway to carve out the WB bit (the good bit) from the Discovery TV bit, it seems this bid is for everything. The relevance being it would include CNN. That would mean that two of the countryâs most important news orgs, CBS news and CNN, would be under the ownership of a closely Trump aligned ideologue who has already shown his hand by trying to give Bari Weiss $100s millions to take a lead editorial role. For context, the recent focus of Weissâ news org has been arguing that starving Gazans doesnt count because many of them had pre-existing medical conditions, which rather than excusing Israelâs actions just goes to reinforce the ghoulishness of it.
