Kamala very correctly claimed Trump intended to use the military on US citizens and was criticized for saying something so inflammatory. And here we are.
Trump rhetorically pivoted away from the anti-abortion policies his first administration ushered in and when any Dem tried to pin him to the consequences of his prior actions they were told “that is lie, he has now pivoted”.
When Project 2025 started getting traction, Trump made completely unbelievable denials and Dems were pilloried for scare tactics for continuing to try to tie him to policy positions he didnt hold…and now we’re here
This is precisely why the “show me the quote” sort of debates with RWers is so pointless. They will only accept something as racist/sexist etc if a very narrow and specific set of words are used and so refuse to accept that even outragously racist shit like this qualifies
Interesting comments here from Magdi, pointing out that the things the that get focused on at any time is not necessarily downstream of any objective criteria for what is important.
What else could it be that distinguishes the coverage of the “controversial” democratic nominee vs the controversial Republican nominee? Her take is that people envisioned that there was a collective idea that if they covered the Tanden “controversy” it might move the needle on her prospects of getting approved, but they felt no such potential for vaught so despite there being actual controversy to cover there they just ignored it.
She isnt specifically calling out mainsteam news here, but has made this point before with a much more direct comment - this is how you get stories like Benghazigate
After clicking on a link provided by @SBYM (I think it was, maybe it was even in the TIA days) a long time ago, I dare not to to click on links or look up on the suggestions made on TAN.
What I find the most distressing about this, is that he, quite clearly, argues that illegal immigrant should not be brought into a hospital’s Emergency Room.
The cruelty and callousness of the Social Darwinistic opinion he seems to hold, is almost breathtaking; since it is delivered with an intellectual “swung”.
Deporting immigrants is one thing, but refusing them basic health care and access to an ER, is an entirely different and far more grotesque matter. It is honestly hard to understand how such cold nazi-like thoughts don’t get more push back and focus. But perhaps there is a lot of talk about this and I am missing it. But I have not seen anything of note.
He’s saying it because he’s lying about a point of contention in the shutdown negotiations.
One of the Democratic Party demands is that a portion of the Medicare funding that Trump eliminated in the BBB is restored. Republicans are dishonestly pretending that what this means is they are Demanding that illegals get covered by Medicare, and this is the example he is using to portray them deranged and “woke.”
The problem is regardless of what happens with this Medicare funding, hospitals are required by law, Reagan era law, to provide emergency medicine to people regardless of their legal status or ability to pay. now it is true that a portion of this funding under question could potentially be used as part of the hospital reimbursement program for providing services that they don’t recover payments for, but that has no bearing at all on the legal responsibility to provide the healthcare in the first place
I mentioned it above, but there appears to be a revision happening among third way type dems to concede that maybe Biden did get the border wrong and we need to change course to win again. I get the attraction from a political perspective seeing how badly Dems fare on the issue, but the reality is pretty much every person having that discussion has absolutely no idea what they are talking in terms of immigration law or policy, or can identify specifically what it was Biden did that made it go wrong.
This thread here is going to be essential reading to help you understand which of these super smart “this is how Dems screwed up the border” talking heads is full of shit (they all are)
Basic take: 100% of the increases that occurred under Biden were due to push factors of people wanting to come rather than any change in policy that made it easier to do so. People will often point to moves the admin made shortly before the election to “strengthen the border” that prove he could have done more earlier had he wanted to, but what those move consisted of was actually to illegally disregarding asylum law.
He argues the push factors were partially covid related and partially poor messaging from Biden administration (a common theme) that allowed false narratives to take hold that it’s going to be easier to get in now and that impacted not just the migrant flow, but also the narrative about it within the US. I think that is a pretty good summation of the first 3 years of the Biden presidency - sit back and offer no counter at all to all the shit talk being aired about what your admin is doing so that it becomes conventional wisdom because its the only thing people are hearing.
