Can’t blame him. A ballroom is every manly man’s dream.
Don’t forget his crown,he is already negotiating with Charlie in case he has a spare,on under the royal bunk.
How many bagfuls of cash for one crown, I wonder?
They have but Trump repeatedly made explicit promises this work would not touch any existing part of the property.
This whole thing is a microcosm of the Trump presidency. He thinks the things the comes with the presidency are his - the lawyers, the house - and he can do with them as he wishes, rather than understanding that he is just an administrator of the office these things belong to. He came into power on the back of a supposed cost of living crisis and not only have things got worse on that front, in ways directly related to what he has done, but he is now thumbing his nose at everyone by spending on such frivolities. And no one gives a shit. Dems are not even given the space to say “I know the economy has been tough, but things are improving” without being attacked as out of touch elites. Trump is having his let them eat cake moment and still there will be supposedly serious conversations about the need to cut wasteful government spending.
Like Notre Dame cathedral, the version that was present on the year the original construction was completed had no resemblance to the final version. It has gone through maybe 10 major reconstruction/expansions in its life since, including rebuilding it largely from scratch after being burned down in what Americans call the War of 1812 (the other war of 1812). With very few exceptions though these projects have been about executive functions no longer being well enough supported in the space available or structural rework that was required and there is a committee that is supposed to be required to approve this sort of work
You just have to lol at how much disdain they have for their own viewers. It is probably the only thing they are ever correct about.
I’ve said before we have an absurd response to how we hear what a politician says - things that are said in private and later exposed are treated as disqualifying when saying the exact same things in public is typically ignored. This is a textbook example

The stuff he’s now been exposed for saying is shit he’s been saying publicly for ages. But now there is “a leak” his nomination is being pulled
Tone-fucking-deaf!
I’m sure the ball room will decorated in gold and look…
ehhh whats the word…
amazing… no
fabulous… no
wonderful… no
elegant… nope!
it’ll look cheap and tacky just like everything Trump does
Liberace would be proud. Similar taste to Trump.
Awful as it is, I would be delighted if Trump was only taking a wrecking ball to the White House, and not the country itself.
Is it ironic that that it is the thing he does well?
This just keeps getting more and more fucked up
The issue lots of establishment Dems raised from the beginning was concern that for someone so new to the fold and so unvetted we dont know what is in his past, and last week that story broke - a long collection of very online comments that are racist and sexist. His response has been part what has made him such an attractive candidate - speaking like a normal person about the need to give people space to grow and a vision for how to help young men who were as lost as he was back then. But part of it has been a demonstration that he doesnt understand why some of those comments were problematic. So, no consensus on whether he has avoided being milkshakeducked
Complicating the story is the reporting that this online history was found by Palantir, and so there is partially a story about how far the DC Dems are going to get him out of the race (the assumption they were who contracted Palantir). Partially a story about the terrifying future Palantir is taking us into. But weirdly also an emerging story about a different DC segment of the party being responsible for his astroturfed campaign while ignoring pleas from local Maine players to stay out of the way because of concerns for this very situation.
Oh, and he has a “Nazi tattoo.” While in the Marines he was on shore leave in Croatia and did the textbook thing of getting drunk and going with a group of the boys and getting a tattoo. His story is he simply picked something from the book that looked heavy metal and has only come to know its Nazi connections in the last week since people have been talking about and so now intends to get it removed. I mean, if there is an understandable way to accidentally get a Nazi tattoo it is while on shore leave in Split so its a reasonable story. Except there are now a good number of people claiming they have first hand knowledge that he has known full well what the symbol was and has openly referred to it as his Totenkopf.
Of course now people who want to support him are in a real bind over how to do that and continue to use the criticisms of the right they have been making. Similar to how they had decided that to continue to Me Too movement they had to sacrifice Al Franken. The parallels to how people on the right today use Nazi iconography are not very close though. There is nothing about the rest of his beliefs that align with this the way there is of the people who use them on the right. He isnt part of any organized group who use this as an official symbol, the way Hegseth is. But at some point between getting it and today he seemingly knew what it was and did nothing about it and at minimum that shows pretty terrible judgement. And further indicates he is in fact an astroturfed candidate because if his interest in this was organic you would surely think getting rid of your Nazi tattoo would be one of the first thing you’d do in preparation.
It’s ok. This isnt corrupt because it still needs to be approved by the upper levels of the DoJ who are of course apolitical and only acting on the legal merits
Trump family member furious over new Trump-named monument
Story by David McAfee
Donald Trump has a plan for a “triumphal arch” that will be named after him, and the president’s niece is not happy.
According to the New York Times in an article called “What to Know About Trump’s Plan for a Triumphal Arch in Washington,” President Trump “has proposed construction of an arch in the style of the Arc de Triomphe in Washington in the lead-up to the nation’s 250th anniversary.”
His niece, trained psychologist Mary Trump, had something to say about it in a video on Substack.
“Are we still shocked? Really? Are we still shocked that a man as despicable and craven and greedy and grifty and destructive as Donald Trump would be all of the things he is? Are we still shocked that he would have the audacity and the complete lack of self-awareness to announce that he is ordering a triumphal arch to be built and placed at the entrance of the Memorial Bridge that leads from Arlington National Cemetery to the Lincoln Memorial, in honor of the 250th anniversary of the founding of this country?” she asked. “No, no–in honor of him. Are we shocked that he calls it the ‘Arc de Trump?’ That makes me want to die of shame, quite frankly. Although, potential bright side—someday, if we survive, we might be able to repurpose it, so that’ll be fun.”
Mary Trump goes on to argue that, because we know what her uncle will do, it is best to focus on those around him instead.
“We have to shift our focus. Donald is going to keep getting away with anything he can get away with. This is his MO from time immemorial. Push the envelope; see how far he can continue to push the envelope. If he gets away with it, push it further,” she said. “Instead, we have to turn our attention to the people who are allowing all of this to happen. We can be deeply, deeply embarrassed that Donald stood in front of the world with his tiny arches and claimed that the arch was being built for him and named after him right and will be placed right near Arlington National Cemetery.”
Mary Trump further asked, “Who is allowing all of this to happen?”
She also tied in the government shutdown to help make her point.
“Because who can be bothered with the fact that people have been furloughed and aren’t getting their paychecks? who can be bothered that essential workers are being expected to show up to work without pay. Who can be bothered? Donald has a White House to destroy and a ballroom to build and a triumphal arch to put up. He’s busy,” she said.
Yeah, sorry, if he was on the other side we’d all be piling in. Don’t like trial by internet, but if that’s true, it’s disqualifying.
After Fetterman, I think the Democrats are not inclined to give anyone with a populist bent the benefit of the doubt over any question marks. Notably, although they are not particularly significant in the Maine electorate, Planter seems to have a very poor image with the black community.
