Another titbit from the self styled peace president, sure the Nobel people are watching the antics of this raving lunatic closely.

They would likely actually give it to him, despite who he is and despite everything else awful he does, if he secured a good (but only if it was good) peace for Ukraine; since that war affects almost everything else in the world geopolitically.
But he isn’t trying and hasn’t tried to help end the war on terms that are not akin to Russian victory.

I know many are probably bored of me talking about that war, but it really has an enormous effect on the wider world that is difficult to exaggerate.

As a very tiny example, as a direct effect of that war alone, there is no longer any real focus at all on global warming and the environment, security and rearmament takes priority and we are back to Cold War type competiton and will remain there as long as Russia is agressive. It must end to get focus back on saving the actual planet. When states are threatened and their Threat Assessment for the future goes up, they don’t really focus on long term environmental costs for the rest of the planet(sure, a bit, but far from as much as they could have) Then we have food and energy prices globally. It affects everything.
The defence budgets rising in all of the West, those money could have ideally been spent on something nicer and kinder instead of gearing up to deter Russia. But these days, it’s a natural necessary priority to ensure political manouverability and security.

Basically, less green politics, less social policies all over the globe. Because this war, it greatly affects Africa and Asia too, as we have seen with food shortages in Sri Lanka and various African countries, as a direct result of far less grain on the global market.

So yeah, If he managed to “save” Ukraine, I am pretty sure he would get it. But he won’t do it.

Dems believe that they are not able to celebrate any economic wins when they are in charge of an economy when not 100% of people are doing well (all the time), as this will be treated as them being elitist and out of touch with the challenges of real americans. This is reinforced over and over again by the treatment of the mainstream press.

Trump has come into office on the back of concerns about inflation and actively made that worse. He has made moves that has seen Argentina be able to out compete us on the international market for soybeans and even replace US beef in the domestic market, and he has responded by giving more of our money to Argentina. And here he is in his disgustingly redecorated office sharing plans for his quarter billion dollar renovation of the white house to create an event space that could not be more elitist.

If at least his projects were good in an architectural / cultural sense… but they are absolute trash. A 100% waste of money.

It might be wishful thinking from me , but I do hope that that picture of a wrecking ball being taken to the White House proves to be the defining image of the man and his administration , in much the same way as the kids in cages was from the first. It really is the perfect illustration of what this madman is doing to the country and its institutions.

It’s quite quaint now to think one of the more popular lines to explain support for him in 2016 was that he was so rich (he wasnt) that he was immune to the sort of corrupt self-dealing (  ) the rest of our political class do allowing him to be solely focused on the needs of the American people (who he fucking despises).

These people dont have explanations for their support of him. They support him first and foremost and then contort themselves to find an explanation for it based on what ever argument is being had today.

That reminds me of when I went to Versailles - not in terms of craftsmanship, but the opulence and complete disconnection from the wider public. Everything was covered in gold, I remember walk round thinking “You don’t need to wonder why there was a revolution”.

Versailles was built way earlier than the times of the revolution. It comes from Louis XIV, thus a full century before the revolution. And at least, the palace and the new city of Versailles are among the very best, progressive projects built in their time.

Trump’s hogwash on the other side is nothing but vain hollowness. Because of his absolute lack of culture, whatever he builds won’t go down in history, contrarily to Versailles. Apart maybe as another symptom to show the decadence of the USA.

  • Detention centers approved through an illegal process of no-bid contracts with no transparency on the amounts or the recipients (Florida has a Sunshine law that requires government spending transparency that it prides itself on despite never following), and built not in compliance with laws about detainee safety and assurance of humane conditions

  • Conscious burying of data that contradicts their public claims that people detained there were already in removal proceedings

  • Now we have the same burying of data on how many of those were actually US citizens.

Anyone who still parrots the line that opposition of this is about defending open borders is a fucking moron.

Oil prices jumping in reaction to the US announcement, and American consumers will probably see at least a 5% increase at the pump by Monday. Cue TACO Trump.

Not a serious country

Out go WAPO, the Times, NPR, all the cable networks. In come people on Russia’s payroll and an Conspiracy Theory outlet currently in the process of fending off bankruptcy proceedings over legal fees for the lies in their coverage, and a hostile take over attempt from the Onion

I don’t really have words for this. Not few enough to bother writing, in any case.

That people actually believed Donald J. Trump was going to Washington to Drain the Swamp will baffle me until my last breath.

They still believe it, they think he is doing it now and that all of this is the drainage. :face_vomiting:

Could maybe insert lots of words about sociology, media, sociopolitics and socioeconomics to seek to explain root causes and consequences; but that would be work.

I think psychology would have the most answers.

Probably true. But you would have to combine them with the other factors regardless to make sense of it and it is sort of covered in the extremely broad terms, Socioeconomics and Sociopolitical.

I think they understand how bad the optics are due to the lengths they are going to now to prevent people filming it (secret service cordoning off access to areas where snaps would be possible) and how much of a front court press there has been from MAGA media all making the same arguments about why this is no big deal at all.

It such an obvious metaphor for his presidency
