This guy is fascinating. He was at the forefront of the renaissance of the intellectually justified racism on the right before oddly becoming Anti-Trump at some point around the election and never really laying on the table what caused his pivot. It read to me like a cynical play to position himself in a new niche, maybe expecting lots of people to flock to his prior position resulting in him get drowned out by the volume, but he has fairly consistently offered what seems like the right arguments from decency and rule of law against this Trump administration.
But now he’s right back to phrenology type arguments to pigeon hole jews as a certain type of people to try to understand where the fit in on the modern right

There is a man sitting in jail in Tennessee right now over a Facebook meme he posted in the aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
Free speech lawyers say Larry Bushart’s incarceration makes no sense. Bushart’s son says it’s an “egregious violation of his First Amendment rights.”
But the sheriff at the center of the case defended the arrest in an interview with the CBS affiliate in Nashville yesterday.
The Intercept’s Liliana Segura gave the “absurd prosecution” national media attention last week. She described Bushart as a former police officer and a progressive keyboard warrior who, after Kirk’s death, “posted furiously, repeatedly, about why the right-wing activist did not deserve to be lionized — and warning about the escalating assault on free speech.”

Ah, I remember the great soybean war of 2018 (?) when Trump got himself out of a jam he created for himself with this sort of public declaration, one that Xi simply never followed up with (because pivoting soybean suppliers on a large scale is not a quick process) after saying what he needed to say publicly to get his tariffs lowered

He is being suckered into restarting a nuclear arms race. Russia won’t benefit long-term because the costs are not something they can truly bear (viz. how Reagan won the Cold War), but China can, will, and probably wants to as long as the US is seen as the initiator.
In the macro sense, this may be the worst foreign/defence policy step a Trump administration has made, and considering the rich field to choose from, that is saying something

The interesting thing is while Russia likes lording its perceived wins over Trump, China just quietly takes their wins and goes back to business. I guess that is in part a statement of which of them has the ability to actually leverage those “wins” into developing tangible advantages.
A friend of from back home moves east after uni and married a Chinese woman he met while working in Shanghai. When they initially had their first kid, after having moved to Singapore, she was reluctant to have her learn any Chinese. It was the result of some complex sense of what people of her generation grew up thinking the definition of success was - speaking english as a first language. A decade later they have her enrolled in Chinese school in Sing fully expecting that its going to be the most valuable thing they can do to prepare her for the economy of her adulthood.

Climate change takes another hit thpugh as measuring the carbon 12 yo carbon 14 ratio is a clear indicator of it being caused by human activity. Extensive testing could conveniently mask that a bit (ignoring the soaring increase in co2 in the atmosphere anyway).
I despair.
