I do not like the use of federal forces on the ground. I do not like agents covering their faces and arresting people. But those opposing what is going on around the country must understand why it is happening. And I don’t think most Democrats do so. It’s one reason why the Democratic Party is plunging to all time lows in approval ratings.
This was very preventable. The American people were very concerned about the level of illegal immigration and perceived that one political party was not serious about dealing with the problem. It didn’t matter what that party passed eight months before an election. They saw illegal immigration skyrocket and perceived the Democrats as not only ignoring it but encouraging it.
Americans have repeatedly told politicians that illegal immigration was one of their top priorities. And after being ignored for decades, they elected a demagogue to sort it. What one part of the ideological spectrum did not understand is that if the good guys weren’t serious about dealing with the problem, they’d elect the bad guys to sort it out. And they did.
Donald Trump was very clear in the election that he would deport all the people who were here illegally. He said it in every rally and every speech. He told you exactly what he was going to do. And as disturbing as it may be, he was elected. Now he’s doing what he promised.
Until the LA riots, public opinion was turning against him. But since the riots, public opinion is turning towards him. Did he do this provocatively? IDK. Maybe. But the point is that Americans do not like people breaking the law, including illegal immigration and especially burning cities down.

Sanders has since changed his tune. That’s because culture war issues have overwhelmed economic issues in the Democratic Party. For 50 years, Sanders was an advocate against immigration because he cared about the material wellbeing of American workers. But the Democratic Party became beholden to its progressive activists who cared more about the global poor than the American poor, so he had to change his message lest he lost the progressive left.
This is a losing position for Democrats and the left in general. People like some, legal immigration. They don’t like massive, illegal immigration. They want order, not violence and chaos.
