Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 3)

Totally agree, seems a lot of people are coming to that view, probably not surprising, most want to live in peace, not having some raging dingbat looking to start wars everywhere.

Wow, look at what happened when that harvest failed. Not only in Russia but wider in the UK, Egypt, and parts of the middle east. It is 100% about resource security and who controls it. Whether that’s oil, crops whatever. Putin’s goal was all of Ukraine, Trump’s is?
Stop passing stuff off as something it isn’t.

Don’t want to derail this thread, probably something for the Russia or EU threads, but this might be useful:

People love to complain about how weak European and other world leaders are in response to the US, and fair enough, but very few people are willing to do even a little bit in their own personal lives. I realise this gets laughed at by many, but boycotting US products and services by everyone who claims to be so upset by Trump would definitely have an impact. It doesn’t have to be 100%, you can’t do much about LNG gas or weapons or maybe services your company/employer uses and maybe you need Android/Apple/Microsoft etc for some things. Fine. But at least making conscious decisions about whether there’s a possibility to cut something off or looking for non-US alternatives would be something. Do you really need Amazon for shopping? Amazon Prime? All these streaming services? Do you need to watch that US movie in the cinema? Do you need Google for everything? WhatsApp? There’s even the added benefit of not giving your data to these companies, with their ridiculously low data protection standards etc.
Just saying. Maybe you think you need this stuff, maybe you don’t give af, ok. But we have more market power than we seem to think in the rest of the world.

True. I believe the EU has pulled out of the new trade deal that Trump set up. Or at least stopped working on it. It’s a start!

What is this ā€˜emoluments clause’ you speak of?

Do you think carney helped the maga conspiracy nuts when he done a geroge bush senior when he mentioned the NWO?

Although the guys face sat next to him was funny

First reactions I’ve seen in Germany to this latest development are quite telling. Trump has managed to completely piss off even the last remaining bastions of Transatlantics here (not that they were happy before, but at least tried to keep it on the low), certain polticians, media etc. When even the head of the Außenhandelsverband (that’s an association for German foreign trade companies) says this is the final straw, there’s no way the EU/Germany can back down on this, it’s more important than our exports to the US, you know what time it is.

He’s right. Whenever someone quotes an article or an opinion piece on this forum, the link should be posted with it. Our take is that this is very important in order to have the best possible level of discussion in here.

I’m not sure that people in Moldavia or the Baltic states would agree with that. Nor those in Georgia. They are obviously next on the list if Putin has his way.

Also worth noting his initial goal was all of Ukraine, in 3 days from memory.

It is a new world order, and MAGA has been saying that is what they want all along, just not in those exact words. I don’t see any reason to warp our language around humouring them, particularly because no concession will ever be enough. It is just another example of the Overton window.

How could this possible go wrong? WSJ reports ICE agents are dwarfed based on arrest numbers, even of people who are incorrectly arrested and subsequently released

No they aren’t and there’s nothing obvious about it because there’s nothing of value there for Russia. Russia has never indicated ANY intentions towards those nations but that hasn’t stopped western dscaremongering aimed at folks like you. Look, what don;t you get about the only threat to global security right now is America under Trump.

This. A new world order and Mr Trump has zero intention of leaving office in three years time. In the meantime sow terror at home and build a right wing version of the SS and Gestapo.

Russia is already , and has been for some time , actively promoting online ā€˜independence’ influence campaigns both in Moldova and the Baltic states amongst the Russian speaking populations there. The same kind that then gave them an excuse to send their soldiers into the Donbas , the Crimea and Georgia. I really don’t understand why you try to insist that Russia is some kind of benign actor when just about everything we know tells us otherwise.

It is telling that in one of the first posts on the topic, the red army were characterized as ā€œliberatingā€ the people in the countries they went through on their path to Berlin at the end of WWII. A real tankie indicator.
