Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 3)

Don’t find that to be hyperbole at all. I’ve been saying for months that I don’t see an end that doesn’t involve violence…especially if they nefariously tamper with the midterm elections.

I’ve been very critical of hyperbole around the forum of late. This is not hyperbole at all.

This is unreal - that testimony was prepared. Notable to see Massie pointing it out

It’s quite telling that the “process” has become more “theatre” rather than process - I wonder if there are parallels in the past with this sort of transition and what it means.

The broader issue is that we are here now at this stage and the process that led to this is something to chew over…

I feel like this happened in a movie or TV show, but cannot recall the specifics.

Little help, someone?

Apparently she is prepped to death for it all aswell beforehand. The entire thing is rehearsed.

No punches pulled here ;

Isn’t she @Limiescouse’s favourite lawyer?

Did you see Mokowitz exchange with her? Last time she sat for congress there were pics captured of her prewritten “burns” she’d written down in her binder. Mokowitz asked her to go through her “burn book” and read him the insult she had written for him and he’d grade it.

He has a tendency to turn these things into a circus, but in times like this it is no more than they deserve given you know you are not going to get a serious response from them on any question

Can the DoJ fire a court appointee?

They eventually end up eating themselves. I don’t think we’re at that point yet, but I do think everyone can see them for what they are now.

It’s all pretty much new legal ground. The administration are not on good footing, but the Republicans have a long storied history of rallying behind bad arguments they only pretend to believe to advance an agenda

I hate to bring this up again, but the parallels with 1930s Germany are too plain to miss.
Just waiting for the Reichstag fire equivalent, which should come in time for the scheduled mid term elections.

This seems relevant.

Roberts has an academic background in philosophy and amusing originally got into climate science two decades or so ago due to an interest in the bad arguments that were being used by deniers. He eventually transitioned into a legit focus in green energy, but every once in a while reverts back to his philosophical beginnings

They’re actually so obvious, it’s a wonder that more people aren’t seeing it.

Not enough people are even aware of the mistakes of the past so by and large as a society we have left ourselves open to letting people repeat them. I watch plenty of historical documentaries and my wife cannot comprehend how. Anything to do with mans inhumanity to man and she asks me how on earth can I watch such things while she will consume violent action and horror without a quibble. When I query why she says it’s because she know it’s not real.

Let’s face it, one wouldn’t build a thesis of the ills of modern society just around her and it’s not like that’s all she watches but I do find this sort of compartmentalisation quite fascinating. It’s easier for her to zone out consuming the content that she does, the fictional violence and the ho hum stuff out there forgotten as soon as it’s over without having to face anything that might challenge her to question what she thinks human nature and society means. To her history is boring and who really cares because it’s the past and why face it anyway and to me, I think that sort of attitude is pretty much a mainstream attitude. I would think that if you were to stop 100 random ordinary people on most streets around the world and ask them about 1930’s Germany and the vast majority would be absolutely blank about it. People just don’t know and don’t care about it enough to think of it as important.

A really good post. Please take my reply as agreeing with you and not trying to preach.

What history shows us, is that the Human Race doesn’t learn from history.

There has been a lot of talk about 1930s Germany, I understand this as it is most recent (in terms of Global involvement) and documented but history didn’t start there. Mankind has always been hungry for power, found scapegoats and used ideology to support/manage this.
The concerning issue is that the Human race has never been so advanced intellectually, more aware and tolerant of other people’s beliefs and yet we are still a hateful lot.

In reference to your observation of your wife, my GF is no different. My GF always watches the News but her views/concern about history is carefree - in my opinion.
Maybe her approach is right, maybe I worry too much about what, as a society we should have learned from History. Maybe, it is completely irrelevant. For example, yesterday a 15yr old boy got locked up for stabbing a 12 year old to death last year, in an area pretty much where I grew up. There were also two lads attacked with a Machete a few days ago on the high street (Shirley). Why worry about history when you can’t walk home safely :man_shrugging:t3:. Sad times.
