Parade is also awful and many note that US troops cannot march. Cannot even autocracy right.

Given how much hatred and disrespect that Trump has given US military personnel, I suspect that a good few of them are tempted to march out of step and salute him with the middle finger.

Do you think this whole thing is simply to humiliate them?

I bet it won’t be long before they have to make some kind of stiff-armed salute when he walks in the room.

The ‘leopards ate my face’ phenomenon really reaches the zenith with the US military. He has repeatedly shown his absolute contempt for them, yet they have repeatedly supported him over the Democrats. FFS, he skipped out early on West Point graduation to go golfing.

I havent looked at the methodology, but this from Elliott Morris is pretty interesting and counter to the conventional wisdom

Public protest has been higher against Trump so far than was the case in his first term. And by this point there had already been the women’s march, the Muslim ban and the lots of stuff breaking already about the Russian connections. And this was taken before this weekend’s No Kings protests

The cadence of his first term was utterly different. At this point in 2017, there were as many stories about unfilled positions in the Administration as anything else, and there was nothing like the wave of executive orders this term has seen.
