Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 3)

Not a war but a limited operation eh? Involving the military and it being a bit special? So you could say a special military operation … now where have I heard that before?

Special Military Operation was taken, so they had to use another word. Same Russian fiction.

It depends on how you define the word ‘winning’ I guess. Yes, they are militarily superior, but look at how Iraq and Afghanistan turned out, despite of their overwhelming capacities. They lost both wars in the end and quit these countries in a worse state as when they attacked them.

And as you say, the regional and even the worldwide consequences are totally impredictible, and could very well lead to a resounding defeat of the US. Imagine if China come to the conclusion that this is the right time to take back Taiwan…

We’ll see, but anyhow, this stupid war can’t bring out any good things for anyone, least of all for the Iranians. * Oh, bar for the dirty arms-merchants of course.

The US clearly won in Iraq 2 and reached its main objectives, which was the downfall of the Baathist regime. Winning the “peace” is another story with the rise of ISIS and etc. But they clearly won.

By winning I mean, end of the Iranian nuclear program, end of its ballistic missile program and the installation of a regime that is no longer hostile to the US. It’s the only thing they care about. They don’t care if Iran splits in 3 with warlords controling various parts. Or maybe they care, but it’s not a priority and not planned for to avoid (because Plan 9).

But I agree, there is absolutely a big chance of strategic defeat.

Of course if Trump is serious with “unconditional surrender”, something we have not seen since 1945; then Americans on this forum must prepare to observe a very large ground invasion. Because there is no historical example of air power achieving this objective.

Imo, Plan 9 From Outer Space will change up and down according to the whims of the God Emperor. But of course, he is now setting the bar insanely high for victory (but that bar is highly mobile for him, so he can lower it later on, since his base doesn’t really care about objetive facts). Normally, end of nuclear program and end of ballistic missile program would be victory for a sane US leader, but Trump wants much, much moree than that.

I don’t think any death will be as widely celebrated as when this piece of shit finally croaks.

It will not lead to change, he was busy attacking Ukraine yesterday and mocking Ukrainians for reasons no one understands, so have to be spite or his homoerotic fascination and/or adoration of the Russian Tough Guy.

Have there ever been such unrequited love ? Probably, certainly in fantasy novels. But there must be so few examples globally per year. Vladimir Vladimirovich loathes him, every Russian policy designed to break the power of the US and Russians think he is braindead, but it just goes on and on and on…

I am extremely unimpressed by Obama (and Bush). This is so late that it is almost irrelevant. The rich venal man, if he was responsible, would have said something substantial long ago.

Fucking John Bolton is more useful than Obama. I never thought I should say those words, but it is true (and yes, I know what the tradition in the US is for ex-presidents, but I have read for months now conservatives and liberal professors begging Obama and Bush to say something, but nothing). History will judge Obama and Bush for their silence.

It’s not that it’s a shock, but what the fuck is wrong with this guy? The performative MAGA cruelty at the end, I am used to it, but this is steroids. He sits there in a suit on 60 minutes.

10cts here :sad_but_relieved_face:.

Barrel prices has nothing to do with it. They speculate.

It’s obscene. Its hard to stomach and despite having seen this sort of display and heard these sorts of words before I still can’t believe how brazen it is. How are ordinary Americans in their millions so supportive of this with their ‘Christian’ values. It beggars belief how far down the road they are to the purgatory they are so desperately trying to avoid without even realizing it. Morally and ethically shorn of any semblance of basic humanity while drunk on the power of having the most powerful military at their command with the checks and balances of Congress deliberately sidestepping any accountability and surrendering meekly with the average American too lost in a sea of disinformation and distraction to be able to rally cohesively enough.

The world is always falling apart somewhere. Man is just too fractious for that not to be so but this feels a little more different than a geopolitical crisis. The world’s strongest super power is in the grip of an amoral madman who will say anything and large parts of it are in his thrall. A seismic shift that will echo globally does not seem to be too far away and the relative peace and plenty that we have enjoyed for the past 70 years is likely to bear the brunt of it.
