I always thought the Baltic states might be vulnerable if Russia continues its expansionist agenda. To the extent they can be strengthened by more NATO troops, it might give Russia reason to think twice, especially if they are having to dig really deep to keep fighting on in their Ukraine invasion.
I didn’t know about Svalbard and the potential vulnerability there. Arguably, with America looking at Greenland, it might increase Russia’s desire to increase its footprint in the Arctic. Ugh.
It seems crucial for Europe to get serious about putting more money into its own independent deterrence, ASAP. I would have thought that a decoupling from American gear should be the goal, though presumably that would not be a full and immediate thing, but rather a progressive thing as we go.
I think I mentioned this before but there was a really good Polish spy thriller called Eastern Gate that HBO coproduced a couple of years ago about a Russian plot to shut up the “eastern gate” (Suwałki Gap) and close off the baltics from the rest of europe.
They are supposedly already making a second series and I wonder if they are frantically rewriting to have to deal with the US fuckery
I have been red-pilled on the Butler assassination attempt from the day it happened, but keep it to myself like a polite little psycho conspiracy theroerist nutjob. I am starting to see signs that the idea is breaking containment.
One of the dumbest themes of this admin is journos talking about accessible Trump is. Yet what do we get out of that access?
Insults and evasion
Meaningless statements that no self respecting person should believe and are often immediately contradicted by himself or his admin, or contradicting what the admin has been saying
And this this form the white house itself saying “dont take it seriously, because he surely doesnt”
Take advantage of the access if you have it, but lets not stop treating it as series content that can justify being reported without deep contextualization (of him being a fucking liar and there is no reason to believe this thing he just told me is true)
I can only agree, and the fact that this kind of agents of chaos are allowed to take power and wage war, forces countries who don’t want war (ie. EU and other European countries, Japan etc.) to arm themselves heavily in order to create enough deterrence. But that means less schools, less money for research, less theaters and museums, less culture, less social equality, and to top it off, the rise of a strong military-industrial complex in these countries.
It’s sad indeed, but reflects how stupid we still are as a collective species, despite of huge technical progresses having taken place in the last century or so. But our collective maturity doesn’t match those progresses.
