I hear you, and I very much understand the anger toward America. I just want to occasionally speak up on here to hold a line that does not accept culpability for all Americans.
77 million voted for Trump. Harris was close, but not quite enough. I think the election was stolen, but there’s not enough evidence on that so far. Or the political will to make it a bigger story.
Besides that, the American populace, as a whole, are victims of a broken information system. There’s a sense in which the whole world is going that way, but some nations are more resilient to being duped, though on the whole, it is a massive global problem. In a much more genteel time it is why we witnessed Boris Johnson riding around on a bus promising millions and millions to the NHS if we pulled out of the EU, and people actually believed it!
I believe that America, and because of its power I might say the world, are victims of a crook, and a crooked organization. (Not a formal organization, but it is bigger than Trump). They have taken over and hijacked government for their own gain. They are bending all branches of government to their will and it is appalling.
There’s far too much money in politics, and Citizens United, and so many other things, have led to the shitshow we see unfolding here in the States.
Hopefully the midterms will deliver a blow to Trump that would see Congress change hands, leading to scrutiny and accountability for him.
Anyway, as an American (dual citizen) who didn’t vote for any of this, along with millions of others, I want to call on the international community to not see us all in the same light, even if - legitimately - the global community is asking, “What the heck happened to America?”
