They’ll have mutual trade in a non dollar environment. Which is what most countries would prefer anyway.
Oil for rice for example in case of indo - Iranian ties

I don’t mean it from an Iranian being nasty perspective. They deserve to have their rebuild costs met. Yet it the rest of the world paying for that via the Strait tax.
And yet Trump probably made a fortune through this. At the cost of US lives and military equipment.
The Ten Point list BBC are reporting are different to those doing the rounds on X:
Here is the 10-point plan, according to an Iranian state broadcaster:
- Complete cessation of the war on Iraq, Lebanon, and Yemen
- Complete and permanent cessation of the war on Iran with no time limit
- Ending all conflicts in the region in their entirety
- Reopening the Strait of Hormuz
- Establishing a protocol and conditions to ensure freedom and security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz
- Full payment of compensation for reconstruction costs to Iran
- Full commitment to lifting sanctions on Iran
- Release of Iranian funds and frozen assets held by the United States
- Iran fully commits to not seeking possession of any nuclear weapons
- Immediate ceasefire takes effect on all fronts immediately upon approval of the above conditions
In particular point 5. doesn’t explicitly state Iranian control or a “tax” to come through.
except 6, don’t think any else will be objectionable.
Let’s not discount the fact that the IGRC are a terorrist bunch.
So we have 2no. 10 point plans.
What are the odds Trump’s are different to Iran’s and he hasn’t read them?

We’re in a textbook Trump situation where he has made things so bad that there are no good options for his opposition. This deal is a much better outcome than whatever he would escalate this to as the alternative. Yet its a terrible outcome and needs to be seen as a huge loss for US interests compared to how things were before the war started. That needs to argued forcefully and consistently because we know Trump is going to do his thing of pretending that stepping in a huge pile of dog shit was a win. But also with Trump criticism of him or this outcome might push him back into an escalatory mind set and so Dems are being criticized in some quarters for how dangerous it is for them to be criticizing this outcome.
But he could have just walked away, pulled the US forces away. No fuss, no ceasefire stuff, just stop.
But he couldn’t keep his mouth shut
But even that is notably worse than before. It would be an action and outcome deserving criticism and yet he is considered so volatile, so capricious and prideful that trying to make him and his enablers suffer any political price for it will be (and already is) criticized for antagonizing him and risking a reescalation.
Yep. My point is he could have done this at any point up to say last Sunday. But he couldn’t let it go.
Everyone knew that short of something hugely daft, his only option was to pull the US out, but he couldn’t do it quietly.
This is the result of the special election to replace MGT in the house
It looks like a walloping, but she won this district by 30 points in the last election and Trump by nearly 40. For a Dem to get to 46% of the vote in this district is stunning.
I wonder if this will be pretty much inconsequential come the midterms? A distant memory viewed with beer goggles and in the context of Dems not being able to make a case in any one direction.
I would guess the key will be how much the cost of living comes down from the current peak…
Is that the final count? The header says 45% of the votes in.
It’s up to 99% counted now and still more or less the same margin.
This is great. Ronan Farrow is interviewed about the loss of diplomacy in US foreign policy and a MAGA chud complains asking why anyone cares what someone like him thinks and when he became an expert.
