This is a few months old now, but I saw it again last night…

Would definitely recommend, it’s only 2mins long.

I lost it when he called Walz a ‘huge jerk’.

This is simply a pay off. It can be very difficult in this era to grade how important different stories, but this is off the charts.

The thing is you cannot even effectively take this out on Paramount. This decision came from the top, from the woman who has been looking to offload a company she inherited and didn’t want to run or own. It is a company that has lost its way in the streaming era due to the amount of focus the top execs had on their years long project of finding a buyer. Without a new direction it will continue to depreciate in value and so the owner just wants to get out and does not want any friction with Trump’s FTC who can block any proposed sale. This is simply a pay off to get the FTC so allow her long negotiated exit happen and so I cancel my paramount subscription in protest the person who made this decision has already got her money and fucked off.

My sister used to be on the legal team at ViacomCBS which has become Paramount Global. She couldn’t wait to get out as it became an absolute rollercoaster

Back in the day there was an entire season long arc in the West Wing about the conflict between Bartlet’s admin and his reelection team and the need to firewall them from each other due to the Hatch Act. Now these chodes do official government appearances in campaign gear.

Not where I am. Harder to get into the US, than out of it. I cross every week, live 30min from the border

Fortunately I have Nexus

Nexus sort of changes things. But my point was that crossers going from the US to Canada were taking longer clearing the US side of the process than the Canadian side of the process, with the new exit inspections.

Entering the US has become more of a hassle at the post apparently, but lines are much shorter.

It’s communist Russia/Mao China level of cronyism. The Republicans have become the ‘reds under the bed’ that they railed against in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s.

She even looks like a trailer trash deplorable!

From the article
Now, with his bill and his bombing, Trump has confirmed beyond any doubt that he is a man of a familiar past instead. Though the damage that neoliberalism and neoconservatism wrought helped make Trump’s charlatanry a credible choice for millions, the man himself stands for the eternal return of those very same policies.

CNN issues ‘breaking news’ update in huge Trump layoff announcement

Story by Alexandra Bullard

CNN has announced breaking news regarding layoff activity under Donald Trump. The broadcaster announced that in June, US-based employers announced 47,999 job cuts, marking a 49% decline from May and a 2% drop from June of last year. Senior reporter Matt Egan said that the figures came from Challenger, Gray & Christmas after it released its latest report that tracks layoff announcements. CNN also reported that layoff announcements tend to decrease in June, a month when some companies’ fiscal year ends, and July, Challenger historical figures show.

Reporter Matt said on CNN: “This report paints a picture of a job market that is holding up better than feared. Layoff announcements skyrocketed earlier this year, but thankfully, they are coming back to earth.”

Challenger also noted that layoff announcements are running at the highest rate since the COVID-19 pandemic and, before that, the Great Recession.

However, nearly 40% of the 744,308 announced layoffs made in the first half of 2025 came from mass cuts conducted by the Department of Government Efficiency initiative launched by the Trump administration, with Elon Musk leading from the front.

Earlier this year, lay-offs were prominent across the USA. The Trump administration spurred the firing of tens of thousands of government workers in a move that came in the form of a short update to a memo first circulated hours after Trump’s inauguration.

Trump told agencies to prioritise downsizing “all offices that perform functions not mandated by statute or other law.” His effort started with an attempt to encourage voluntary resignations through a so-called “fork in the road” initiative.

It then moved into the indiscriminate termination of probationary employees. This referred to workers hired, transferred, or promoted within the past year. This resulted in a protest on President’s Day.

As of April 28, 2025, the broadcaster CNN tracked at least 121,361 workers who had been laid off or targeted for layoffs.

Rehiring those they let go earlier in the year???

I guess if one rehires someone because they were good at their job and you have a demand for their skills and experience then that can’t be defined as a DEI hire can it?

I think theyre both saying its not as bad as feared. I guess the tariffs havent fully hit yet. Has there been any significant uptick in private companies picking up government work after the DOGE layoffs?

I haven’t seen any comments regarding that… will keep scanning the news reports though, and post anything relevant :+1:
