Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 3)

this is just weird

We just elected a fascist. We’re in dumb times. A high % of people being ok with the ad, or even enjoying it (many of whom do precisely they know exactly what is going on with it) doesnt actually refute any of the criticisms being made against the ad.
We’re in a time where is racism is part of the establishment. AE made a campaign to try to exploit that.

But as for the “controversy” and how much the Dems own it, this pretty much nails it. Everyone getting outraged over the outrage is just acting on auto pilot. The whole thing is so tired and transparent and it says something about the people who cannot see what is happening.

Is it 71% of AE customer base or 71% of people in general.

This is one way to address the purchasers of Russian oil

Yeah thats seem legal no doubt…amazing how america thinks it gets to decide whats legal or not, if only some countries applied the same threats to anyone dealing with america, maybe the idiot would understand.

I’d want to rebound on this:

  • You see the problems Trump brings, could you please summarize what you think these problems are?
  • You are indeed right that the democrats seem currently unable to stop trumpism, they lost the last elections after all. So, what should they do in order to properly reconnect with a majority of people in the US? The ‘culture war’ issues always seem to be brought on by the conservative right, in order to criticize their opponents. So, what should the democrats do to deal with this, and win the next elections (if any fair elections take place still)?

(“Dead Hand” is Russia’s Doomsday nuclear system, with maximum launch of strategic warheads)

Lindsay Graham should inform Trump about Medvedev’s Telegram account, as he posts his most genocidal threats there.
Important to relay every Medvedev word to Trump.

Sincerly, if the mockery of Trump by Russian officials manage to, some how, drive a wedge between the US and RU, it is literally an amazing Russian own goal. It would have been so incredibly easy to contain the relations with nonsense, feed Trump flattery and bullshit, but no; they just have to be themselves and seemingly cannot fucking help it.

Yes ! Go Dugin !!!

Give me MOAR !!!

Do you not think there is an element of Kabuki theatre to it where they both benefit among a core they think is important to them from being seen to be the aggressor, and both feeling confident enough in the game that they know the other party is in on the act to not take it too seriously?

Certainly on Trump’s end a significant amount of the support he gets focuses on the immediate short term of the statement or action in complete isolation of what comes from it. Sometimes even to the exclusion of the contradiction he makes in his following sentence. So standing up with your chest out and saying something tough about Iran is seen as winning, but the overall approach to the country resulting in them getting closer to a nuclear weapon with diplomatic off ramps utterly destroyed is a complete irrelevance to the people who are willing to give him wins. I imagine there is a certain sense of this domestically in Russia as well.

But Medvedev is a notorious piss artist so its possible he’s just wasted when going off on these rants.

There such an outcry (from guess which side) when Hillary called them deplorable. The assessment was so accurate I would argue that there has rarely been such accurate and succinct a summarisation of a people in public office.

And what she said was that there are some people, the deplorables, who love Trump because he’s awful not despite it, and they are unreachable. But that we need to acknowledge that a big part of his support comes from people who have legitimate concerns about their economic future and in Trump see someone who is willing to change path away from the one that was not working for them. Her speech was about how her platform was actually directed at those people and we have to continue to keep trying to reach them and to win them over. She was explicitly saying that no matter how awful his candidacy was, we need to not to tar everyone who is open to supporting him

The fact the reflex was for everyone to interpret that as her calling them personally deplorable was an incredible show of telling on yourself, and and even worse show of bad faith from a supposedly liberal media to pretend they believed that is what she said.

I had not appreciated the follow-on part to be honest. It is sad that we missed out on her as a leader…,

I guess what I find equally insightful (sad?), in light of your reply, is that I am part of the problem to an extent. Basically do I have the bandwidth to fully dissect and digest the full discourse, particularly in real time - clearly not.

Honestly, the breadth and intensity of the coverage of deplorablegate would make even the majority who saw the speech live probably forget the actual content of it over time and come to believe that she did actually say that if you support Trump you’re a cunt.

Its a media problem. She was too far out ahead (in their minds), they did not understand the Trump attraction and what made him so viable, and so were desperate for a story they hoped would make people start paying attention.

It’s interesting to see Trump put Medvedev in his place. Medvedev likes the vodka, and some of his grandstanding comes after hours, after libations have been consumed. But even so, Trump is starting to speak in ways that make me wonder how aligned to Russia he is right now.

All along I have long since thought he was in Putin’s pocket. Chances are, he probably still is. But the Indian oil thing, and the way that Trump has been talking lately are starting to get me wondering if a gap is opening up.

Maybe Putin will reach out to Trump and remind him of the kompromat they obviously have, and Trump will once again be on a tight leash.

But it’s an interesting development to observe. I hope the wedge opens up more widely, and culminates in America arming Ukraine to help them repel the Russian invasion.

It’s probably too much to hope for, but something seems to be changing.

The problem with Trump is that he gets so easily manipulated. He can be made to change his mind within five seconds.

A mastermind in manipulation like Putin eats ten Trumps for breakfast I’m afraid. Same problem with Netanyahou.

He’s a senile piece of shit who can’t be trusted to hold up his word.

Call his bluff and fuck him.

If this is a story of how the elite are out of touch, presumably they’ll have some pretty high profile Dems on the record losing their shit about AE. I wonder who they have?

So, which of these out of touch elites speaking out about the AE controversy is more likely to be the Democratic nominee in 2028?Is it “one commenter on IG”, or Mr “comments in one of the campaign’s videos on TikTok”?
