Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 3)

You’d lose your house. I started the original thread on US politics attacking Trump.

What you and so many others in this thread fail to understand is that you can’t fix the problem until you identify the problem. The complete lack of self awareness on the left is a big reason for the rise of Trump and right wing populism in the West. Sticking your head in the sand for reinforcing self-affirmation from your tribe is the exact opposite response needed. But hey, keep on losing and blaming everyone else except yourself.

What blows my mind in this thread on this site is that if a side was playing a 1-2-7 formation and kept losing by six goals a match, you would all demand the manager change the obvious thing that’s causing you to repeatedly get blown out. But when someone does the political equivalent who says “Hey, all those things that’s causing you to lose, maybe stop doing them,” you all come rushing to defend the manager playing a 1-2-7 and attack anyone outside of your tribe saying maybe you should try something different.

The cluelessness about American politics on this thread is staggering.

What you so spectacularly fail to understand is that Trump is the problem.

What are you going to do about him? We never hear you say anything about that. All we get are culture war talking points from the extreme right, and comments on the shortcomings of the Dem strategy, as though anyone in here has it within their purview to address that.

I sometimes wonder if I am responding to a Russian bot.

Your viewpoint is a joke.

Did you not read what I said?

I’ll repeat it for you - I started this thread attacking Trump. And I have done so many times here.

The problem you and many others in your tribe is that you reflexively defend your tribe from criticism and assume that criticism is support for the other tribe. This is a left-wing media bubble that has very little tolerance for dissenting narratives and criticism. If Liverpool is playing a 1-2-7, and I say we shouldn’t play a 1-2-7, it doesn’t mean I’m an Everton supporter. But so many in your tribe believe if I criticize the left, I’m a Trump supporter. That’s an unintelligent knee-jerk response.

The left is totally fucking this up. And until you course correct and stop much of this nonsense, you’re going to keep losing.

The problem you have is you continually attack the left and the Democrats, when Trump is, by far, on any number of levels, the biggest problem.

You keep straining out a gnat to swallow a camel whole.

You have very little understanding of American politics.

Trump isn’t winning. The Democrats are losing. It doesn’t matter what I think Trump is doing if the American public thinks the Democrats are worse.

If I see my team scoring own goal after own goal, I’m going to criticize my team first, not the other team who benefits from the incompetence of my team’s defending.

Try and imagine there is only one side on the pitch, and that side is losing 2-0 at 40’. Who are you going to blame? According to you, it’s the other side not on the pitch.

You are arrogant.

I understand American politics very well, thank you. I recently had a 1 on 1 meeting with my congress woman, Victoria Spartz, to try to move her on something, and a good friend of mine is a state senator.

You continually go at the Dems, while overlooking the decrepit paedophile who is ruining America and leading the world to a very dangerous place.

If I can work out how to ignore, I will do it. You are not worthy.

Ignored! Bliss.

I do not see any good faith posting, at all. A supposed Democrat voter who continually has a go at the Dems, while overlooking the very large Trump and MAGA problem we have.

No sense of perspective as to what the real problem is. Continued baiting and belittling of posters on these boards, as though we hold Democrat strategy in our hands.

Nope. Nada. Nyet.

Not credible. Blocked for my own sense of well being. Off yer pop.

Almost as staggering as the monotony of your posts.

You keep saying this then proceed to prove that I understand it very well.
The ignorance on your part must be bliss.

Because he didn’t like this month’s jobs numbers, Trump fired the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, saying the numbers were concocted to make him look bad. This is asinine. The economic data quality in the US is the highest in the world. He has instantly made the data coming out of the US suspect, raising the cost of doing business in America. It’s one reason why markets sold off. This is a remarkably stupid thing to do.

Yes and no. The whole damn system is the problem. Trump is the result of a system that always favours those with far more than they need over those that keep the whole show running.

Where the Dems sit is basically a party that was an easy target for the populists while doing very little to address the elephant in the room that is inequality and everything that goes with that.

Culture BS is just another attack line.

Looks like PBS is going to try to make it work on a community broadcasting basis.

Used to be. There was a significant amount of doubt about those May and June numbers to begin with. Puts a very different spin on the division in the Fed. The data they manage directly must have been saying very different things, so the picture in aggregate was very confused. It now appears unemployment was rising, output declining, but inflation increasing. No right answer for monetary policy

I completely agree.

A grown up conversation would be a lot more nuanced than how I responded to Toro. Since he continued to wage a culture war and blame the Democrats for everything, I decided to focus on the singular tangerine problem he kept overlooking.

But obviously, bad as he is, America has more problems than Trump.

Trump is the problem. But then,
The system that spawned him is the problem.
The lack of checks and balances that enables him is the problem too.
The broken information system is the problem - not just traditional media outlets, but all the crap online, mostly spawned by bots and bad-faith billionaires.

Several significant missteps are the problem too, for example it is no longer one person one vote, but citizens united having a significant influence.

Many more things are wrong - policing, gun laws, health care provision and cost, education, international policy, etc.

My honest viewpoint about the Democrats is they do need to get their shit together. It’s not like the UK with a recognized leader of the opposition, so it is sort of difficult to ascertain who the leader in waiting is.

Still, the Dems need to be way more gloves off in attacking Trump - the sort of thing that Gavin Newsom has taken to doing the last couple of months. Then in terms of policy, they need to clearly articulate what they are offering, that is different to the Republicans, and win hearts and minds that way - perhaps the sort of thing AOC and Bernie have been doing on their tour. Granted, against the backdrop of a broken information system it is difficult, but it is fair to say the Democrats could do better. There was a sense that they were in a lull post Kamala defeat, but it is past time to rise up and fight better!
