@Hope.in.your.heart This is fall out from Texas state Republicans attempts to redraw congressional maps in a way that pack democratic voters into larger but fewer districts. The outcome is that based on 2024 GE voting patterns it would shift 5 house seats from the Dems to the GOP. Dems don’t have any power to stop it with a vote in the state house so they have gone awol in an attempt to deny a quorum preventing the GOP even being able to vote on the new law. This is the Governor’s response.
Redrawing the maps is something that is required on a ten yearly basis and is always a controversial process due to Gerrymandering. For decades the limits of what parties in power could do with gerrymandering were restrained by the Voting Rights Act. In 2013 though the Supreme Court took the teeth out of that law on the basis that racism was over and the law was not needed anymore. Maps have been redrawn since then, but this is the first real YOLO attitude to redrawing them in the post VRA era.

The last time the Dems pulled the stay away stunt it ultimately ended in failure. Is there a real reason why it should be succesful this time around ? (I did hear some mention of time constraints.)

There is no end game here - all they are really doing is denying quorum, but calling national attention to what the Texas GOP is doing.

State legislations are typically part time and so have a pretty narrow window of time when they’re in session, which is most state level reps still have full time jobs doing something else. If people are citing time, this is probably what is referring to, but I think its likely more a case of just being seen to be caught trying and doing something that raises the salience of the move being pursued.
Newsom is on the record as saying if Texas redraws the boundaries to get more Republican seats, he will do the same in California to get more Democrat seats.
There will be a few obstacles to overcome to do that, but the will is there.
It won’t really matter in the larger picture if Newsom does get more democrat seats in California.
The bigger issue is to get the Texas State to naturally flip. And for the democrats to have a coherent strategy.

Two completely unrelated things. This is talking about distribution of house seats. A minority in a state it still has huge implications for Federal government if you can 40% of your the house seats in your state vs 20%.
“Flipping Texas” refers to statewide elections for which redistricting is irrelevant (it counts the entire state’s votes so it does not matter what district those votes came from).

Let’s get right to it, because time is not on our side, America: Donald Trump won’t order the release of the Epstein files because he is prominently featured in them.
Bare minimum, he associated with pedophiles.
Why is this so hard to understand?
Why isn’t this the end of the road for this monster?
Why isn’t this the only thread that is being pulled on right now with urgency by our bought-off and/or incompetent mainstream media?
Or did I just answer my own question?
Why isn’t every American calling (202) 224-3121 (that’s the U.S. Capitol switchboard) and demanding that Trump release the Epstein files like he said he would on the campaign trail?
Thank God, identifying and stomping out pedophiles is not yet a partisan issue in America.
An unheard of 82 percent of Americans — including 76 percent of Republicans — want these files released immediately. And while Democrats are doing what they procedurally can to get at the files, it will take time that we should all have decided by now that we do not have.
Shouldn’t Americans know, and just as soon as possible, the full details of their president’s relationship with a man who raped children? And shouldn’t THAT finally end the long, national nightmare we have endured for 10 years, while this dirty old man breaks everything in his blurry sight?

Instead, he’s turning that certain color of rust orange, as he bends over at the waist, barrel-butt out, his 6-foot tie scraping his fat ankles, while his little, chubby hands do that weird accordion thing as he lashes out at anybody within his odious vicinity.
He’s posting INSANE distractions on his SOCIAL media channels THAT are ODDly capitalized and carrY the grammatical WAIT of a 4-year-OLD who has Trapped himself in a DOOR jam.
They have quietly moved the disgusting Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s ex-girlfriend and co-conspirator, to a cushy federal prison in Texas. WHY?
Trump has no answers, which is why we need to keep asking this question:
WHY WON’T YOU JUST SHUT UP AND RELEASE THE DAMN FILES LIKE YOU SAID YOU WOULD?
Meantime, the stink has somehow gotten even worse, because there is breaking news that it has taken only six months for Trump to destroy the solid economy Joe Biden helped meticulously build after inheriting Trump’s mess in 2021 following the attempted insurrection.
Trump inherited the strongest economy in the entire world, and has screwed it up in record time. Job growth has stalled again, and is at a 16-year low — or the last time a Democrat was fixing a battered economy left in shambles by a Republican.
Prices are rising, not falling.
Why did anybody think it would be any different this time around?
Here’a another fact that never gets enough attention: Democrats make economies and Republicans break them. Go ahead, look that up.
I could stand to hear a helluva lot more about this, too, because while billionaires are being rewarded like never before in America, the rest of us are getting royally screwed.
The numbers back this up.
Right now, though, I want to know why our president is providing safe haven for pedophiles.
Based on what we know, you’d have to be a damn fool not to believe the worst.

She’s seemingly been targeted for abuse related to the story he shared, so put out of a clarification that she has never worked for the DNC. She is assuming that people understand that individual campaigns are independent orgs and that they are not run by the DNC. Replies are just people yelling vile abuse at her, or positing proof that she worked on a campaign and thus demonstrating that they dont know what the DNC actually is or what it does

As I said, very, very basic Media Literacy is sorely lacking, but there is no such self awareness. Of course, I pointed it out in a caustic manner due to how outrageous he comes across, but an honest person would take a few seconds to reflect on it. He will scoff at it as always, but he has proven several times that he is persuaded by very base propaganda. When I saw what he posted yesterday, I recogniced the wording as obvious Alt-Right meme racism/misogyny and was not at all surprised that I found a neo nazi account. I wouldn’t have checked if I didn’t spot it. That he does not ought to be shameful for him and lead to self reflection on media use, but no. Just pure ignorant arrogance instead.
Same with the MAGA propaganda account he posted after, with no self awareness at all as to how propaganda (and algorithms) works, he does not recognice base cut and paste propaganda and is some how uncritical enough to take it for good fish without googling, like an honest person would.
In my book, that is stunning ignorance from a man who haughtily tells me I understand nothing about politics and certainly not propaganda. Very hard to respect because for anyone with higher education, this is basic stuff. If you are knowledgable, you are not supposed to be successfully targeted by such base propaganda (but sure, it can happen on a bad day to everyone, but serious people then self reflect and certainly will be more cautious in the future, and particularly if someone is helpful enough to point it out with them with an excavator sized spoon), but here we are.

He has a lot of money, so he will laugh at that perspective, as Americans tends to equal it with economic success or lack of it. But I know what you mean and I agree wholeheartedly. But he is lucky in that he could easily better himself, as he has all the aids in the world to progress and better himself, unlike most far more economcally unfortunate people who are swayed by such bullshit.
