Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 3)

Russia is likely to announce a technical break in combat operations in a few days to mollify US president Donald Trump. Likely, I think, this will be enough of a concession to avoid US sanctions and they will likely succeed in continuing to play the United States in this manner.

More insight into what it really means when people claim the left/Dems are outraged about something dumb

Trump admin now following a law, on court order, that they described as “open borders” when a Dem admin does it.

Something is happening today.

Probably due to this (I mean, I hope it is)

Pentagon Pizza Report is absolutely amazing.

Anyway, this is the perfect illustration of what it takes to be a MAGA foot soldier…it’s a lot easier to break rules and destroy institutions when you are too inexperienced to know how anything is supposed to work or why

Very much agree with Snoen (I often do regarding US politics).

The ruckus around Sydney Sweeney’s jeans/genes is noise. More important is Trump’s narrative of natural selection. Some foreigners are simply born to work squatting in the fields. In his goodness, and to help his farmer voters, he will give them a chance to do that exactly.

I re-wrote it very slightly so the translation flowed a bit better.

Trump is just running “if we don’t test for it we’ll have no cases” approach to Covid on EVERYTHING

Around the turn of the 20 century, Argentina was one of, perhaps the, wealthiest country in the world. The way the deplorables are taking the US, it will be much worse off than Argentina - probably more like North Korea by the turn of the 22 century.

Anyone living there, especially those with kids or considering having kids, leave ASAP for the sake of your offspring.

I’m lost for words.
I just can not believe any ‘experts’, or sensible people for that matter, were listened to come to that decision.
Perhaps @Limiescouse could enlighten us?

Trump could appoint Coco the Clown to any of the offices of State now and it would be met with a shrug.

That would be a step up from most of his appointees who only seem to meet one criteria.

A Tale of two countries:

While South Korean researchers find a way to turn cancerous cells back to normal, America is busy cancelling funding for cancer research, and addressing conspiracies from pseudoscience alternative medicine podcasts, like removing fluoride from drinking water.

South Korean researchers at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) discovered that at the critical moment when normal cells become cancerous (a process known as tumorigenesis), cells enter an unstable, transitional state. By capturing and analyzing this state, they identified molecular switches—specific genes in the genetic network—that can revert cancer cells to a normal state if manipulated correctly

The Trump administration cut at least $2.7 billion in National Institutes of Health (NIH) research funding in the first three months of 2025, according to a Senate minority staff report, with a significant portion of these reductions affecting cancer research. One analysis cited in the report indicates that federal funding specifically for cancer research was reduced by 31% during this period compared to the previous year.
