Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 3)

The meeting lasted 3 hours and is over. I expect very few technical details and revelations as to what was actually discussed, but I expect basically this:

Meanwhile, Atlantacist Speck, is always predicting that Trump will get serious and has until now, always been disappointed. He is a strange one, serious, intelligent, hard conservative, but strangely naive (imo) when it comes to the US and Trump ( I read him every day).

I hope Speck is correct this time.
Because indeed:

But the world is waiting for what ought to be the most important story of the week (if anything materialises), but I am doubtful.

Putin is no match for a man who made his name in the rough and tumble negotiations of South Florida real estate.

White House just announced an additional 25% tariff on articles imported from India, as a sanction for importing Russian oil.

Tatarigami is right that it is some what interesting. Because this is technical language of a type that is not found within Trump’s “latter years” vocabulary.

But nobody, outside WH inner circles, knows what it truly means, if anything.
Meanwhile, Russians seem positive (but I don’t have this video in English translation), so must merely trust the words of the excellent correspondent Trofimov, given that my Russian is only slightly better than my Japanese.

But Trofimov responds here to the tariffs, which is worth watching:

(His opinion that Ukraine can continue to fight for years to come under current conditions are however not at all shared by the military analysts that I have learned to listen to and give the most credibility; but on the other hand, neither can RU; though under current conditions they can indeed continue longer than UKR).

Another mindless ad hominem attack

If a neo-Marxist account posts support for gay marriage and I agree with it - which I do - it doesn’t mean I support the hundreds of millions of deaths under Communism, the destruction of the Communist economies, the environmental devastation under Communist regimes, the police state that existed under Communist dictatorships, the throttling of free speech, the secret police, the gulags, the collapse of almost all Communist regimes around the world, and all the other horrible things that happened under communism. It just means I support gay marriage.

Support for the left is falling almost everywhere. One reason is because of the strident and doctrinaire intolerance of anyone who doesn’t adhere to the imposed orthodoxy.

And you really don’t think that exists on the right?

‘Neo-Marxists’ hold no real power in the US, never have. The other political group that has no (more) power is the traditional ‘center -right’. From a foreigner.

Has everyone been having a nice summer?
I hope so !

We had two weeks of tropical weather, hottest since 1902 (even warmer than in 1941). It was totally awesome, and warmer than a normal summer day in Hellas. Now it is rainy, windy and like it should be in october. Even had some hail 2 hours ago.

Of course they do. Absolutely. The right is no better than the left regarding reflexive tribalism.

But the stridency to attack someone who criticizes the dominant orthodoxy here isn’t coming from the right.

I have repeatedly said that I have never nor would I ever support Trump. I’m trying to point out WHY the left keeps losing to Trump and to the broader populist right. There seems to be very little self-awareness to understand why the left keeps losing.

But if posters here are attacking me because they support the culture war issues I’m saying are causing the left to lose, then prepare to keep on losing.

So intolerant lefties on TAN are causing a worldwide turn to the right?

Almost no one in Europe supports the “culture war issues” of the US ultra liberals, but never mind facts, because those are boring.

Intolerant lefties everywhere. This place is just a microcosm.

But it has more to do with the policies the intolerant lefties are supporting, particularly immigration and cultural policies.

Left-wing economic policies are more popular, but they get drowned out by both.

You’ve made the exact same point hundreds of times.
I’d actually appreciate different insights of US based posters. Learnt absolutely nothing new from you though I couldn’t have seen on right-wing social media. Over and over again.

I have repeatedly told you why the right is gaining popularity but you refuse to acknowledge it, preferring to spill out crap on how well populists are doing but twisting it to be the fault of the Democrats.

They are not without fault and plenty have discussed it hear, but the truth is people, including yourself it seems, swallow the populist pill hook, line and sinker.

@Magnus rightly pointed out what that account is, and sharing a typical far right dogwhistle on the UK’s contribution to co2 emissions is just lazy. Yes it’s a comparably small amount but that is absolutely no excuse to ignore the problem. You’ll be quoting Tice and 0.04% of the atmospheres volume next.

What makes me sigh mentally all the time, is that the bufoon think he is telling people something new. Something startling. I’ve known this half my life. I am pretty sure it is not news to a lot others on the forum with some education as well. It’s pretty bloody basic after all.

My apologies for posting an article that is some what more advanced than the usual memes being posted by certain people.

Ok, I’m just trying to understand.

There’s intolerance on both left and right, but the left’s intolerance is more off putting to centrist voters than the right’s.

Is that what you’re trying to say?
If so, why?

Norwegian is surprisingly close to German, isn’t it?

There’s only Denmark separating them and both countries think that is a fake country that really should belong to them
