Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 3)

India doesn’t necessarily need to take sides. And US after killing QUAD by this can kiss any chance of India supporting them goodbye.

India won’t support China in any wars.

Yes it does.

If it doesn’t, prepare for sky high tariffs to the US market.

That will tie your country to China.

Sure. Remind me again, where does US get the bulk of its medicines from ?

India exported $8.73 billion worth of pharmaceuticals to the U.S. in 2024, accounting for 31% of its total pharma exports. Indian generics make up nearly half of all drugs covered by Medicare and commercial insurance plans, saving the U.S. healthcare system $219 billion in 2022 alone.

https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/india/indian-pharma-dodges-trump-s-additional-25-tariff-for-now-13408022.html

All the best selling drugs to americans at increased rates.

Oh yeah, I’m not saying the US is being rational in all this. I have a degree in economics specializing in trade. And all this tariff nonsense is hurting the US.

But I don’t believe that India can persevere more than the US in this negative-sum trade war.

The US is the dominant economic power right now. And it’s flexing its power, for better or (mostly) worse.

Essentially this is a trade war.

Nothing to with purchasing Russian Oil. That’s exactly what this is. Trump’s attempting to take that line so that it sounds palatable. Oh, India’s funding Russian war crimes. Lets put sanctions against them all the while ignoring that China and Turkey import Oil from Russia too. Trump wants access to Indian markets with no Tariffs there. Indian agriculture and dairy markets are closed ecosystems. The majority of Indians still rely on agriculture for their livelihood. India shouldn’t endanger that by allowing US produce in at competitive rates.

I don’t particularly like India’s high tariffs. But as far as the agriculture industry goes, India doesn’t have too much options there.

I think you are being too intelligent about this.

I think Trump believes “India has a trade surplus with the US, and all trade deficits we have are bad.” On trade, I really don’t think it’s more than that.

On geopolitics, I think it’s more complicated. And I think the Trump administration is willing to use trade as a weapon.

There’s a NATO partner in Turkey who’s selling Russian refined oil to European countries but Magnus would have you believe that it’s only India who’s doing that. The shock, the horror.

Of course no exorbitant tarrifs on Turkey as they do buy US weapons etc.

Trump’s simplistic trade views about surplus and deficit shows him to be retarded. Most countries aim to sell more than what they import. If Trump wants to sell products to other countries, strong-arming them isn’t the way to go about it. Sure there might be initial purchases, but there’s a huge trust deficit which has been created there which will damage US in the long run.

This was an interesting tid-bit, not so much for the content but more for how (one part of) the Trump organisation works. It may be obvious to those in the know more but I guess I did not fully appreciate the connectivity between the finger on the pulse (maga/internet chatter) and access to power. It also goes both ways, they must have regular lower level sound bites that are gauged for how the executive order of the day (hour?) will come across - the second article…

He has explicitly stated above that there are other countries doing this, and that they should also be punished, at the risk of driving oil prices through the roof.

Thank you. His outright lies and spin is fucking infuriating. He always does this, every single fucking time.

And using Turkey, of all possible countries, as an example. Oh-my-God…
Almost no one is happy with Turkey, least of all me. Dear lord what an example. Turkey I have after all written much about previously.
But the fact remains that India is a much bigger problem, as shown by billateral trade and political support for Russia.

Let him announce that for Turkey then.

Already done, just above your post.

Why the fuck should I repeat myself 55 times anyway ? I have said all of this before several times, you irredeemable numb skull. But in this case it was India that was highlighted for absolutely obvious reasons, given the recent tariff. I specifically also wrote everyone (when does everyone not include Turkey ???)

I am not here to write a thesis. Do you have any idea how long time it would take to write a “perfect” list, which includes arguments, for this entire saga, mentioning all possible countries ? You should, if you were not a total low-brow troll you would have considered that it might not be possible in a forum post (so I usually list sources instead). I have literally posted about this many times before (usually then, I have never even mentioned fucking India).

The absolutely only reason why I have not put you on Ignore many years ago, is that I want to know what you write about me. Because you would. When @redalways withdrew, you celebrated your pathetic victory over him in countless unrelated threads again and again, mocking him unceasingly, until I exploded and told you absolutely what I thought about it on the User Thread. Thus, you are the type of human being that I want to keep a little eye on.

It depends on the elasticity of the demand curve, but tariffs are usually a cost on consumers not producers, especially on intermediate goods

Won’t trump just argue that the imported parts in ford vehicles should be made in america to avoid the tariffs.
