FT are reporting a story others have now picked up that NVIDIA have agreed to pay the administration 15% off the top on all exports to China in return for being granted an export license.

Amazing that this is the party who based their campaign across 2 consecutive cycles on pretending to be upset about a story they made up about the Biden Crime family

I don’t know who Nathan Blake is, but his thread is a very misleading representation of what the NYT piece says. A couple of the actual take homes:

The focus of people who regret transitioning is typically people who changed their mind and no longer think they are actually Cis, but regret is a more complex issue than that. If you expand the definition of what ā€œregretā€ means then the number, unsurprisingly, is higher than commonly reported. Critically, very few of these people identified as having regret feel that way because they realise they are actually Cis after all.

Among the groups her research identified, the most common group are people who found the world was even more horrible to them after they transitioned. Another group are the people who didnt get the psychological/emotional benefit from they hoped, but that doesnt mean they wish they could go back. Her piece does not connect these dots, but what other research has shown is that the most common factor in people not getting the benefit they hoped is starting the transition too late. This is precisely why early access to gender affirming care is so important, but also why it is critical to understand that this is a broad category of which permanent medical procedures is only a tiny subset, and one that usual care requires years to work through before someone qualifies for that. There is another category of regret that is closer to ā€œI don’t think I want to continue moving forward, but I’m happy where I amā€, which again is actually an argument for early treatment because it allows people to live with non-permanent approaches to transition to help them calibrate where exactly they want their end point on the transition to be.

Treating this piece as an argument that undercuts what trans activists want is an incredible display is lack of reading comprehension or selctive reading

He works for Ethics and Public Policy Center, which is a centre right think tank, promoting Christian ethics.

You’re losing the working class vote with all that intellectual nuance stuff.

Put it in terms we can all relate to - trans equals bad, empathy is woke, men are manly and women should look good in the kitchen.

There are many pages I could write about this, but why bother. It is the will of the dark lord in Washington.

Nevermind that this is exactly what they did. He thinks they invaded in 2022 through muddy fields or something

Trump: ā€œA lot of people don’t know that Ukraine used to have 1,000 miles of ocean. That’s gone, except for one small area, Odesa. That’s a small area. There’s just a little bit of water left.ā€

May Trump vanish.

Trump ā€œI get along with Zelensky, but, you know, I don’t agree with what he did. I really, really disagree. This is a war that shouldn’t have happened,ā€ — Trump said."

Trump has stated today, several times, in various different sentences, that Ukraine started the war. MAGA , human detrius and filth far less respectable than old school nazis, will believe this.

I’d grant him a fast and painless one … as long as it happened soon.

So would I. It’s just that what he is doing to Ukraine is so abominable and costs so many lives that I, who have seen videos of thousands of soldiers and civilians die, many of whom die very slowly and painfully; get a bit frustrated with the fat guy who lives a careless life in luxury.

And far worse than the lives lost, is the territory that will be lost because of him. After all, that territory and the political control of it, is why people die for it. It’s why eastern and northern Ukraine looks like a hellscape. To make the sacrifices meaningless with a München Agreement, is worse than anything else Trump has done and likely will ever do.

But sure, I don’t have sadistic inclinations in reality.
It’s just that I get frustrated because I see so much suffering. And he does not respect suffering or morality, at all. It grieves me to see how he acts like a careless God King, breaks pacts and promises. That is far, far worse than murdering someone because you lose your cool etc. Ethically anyway. And he gets away with everything.
Of course, then it’s sometimes difficult for me to not wish, if I have a heated moment; that he ends up like Ceaușescu, Mussolini, Hitler or Hussein. Because he is not much better (barring Hitler), that much is for certain.

If anyone truly believes that if Trump rose to the top in a country where he was allowed to use far more force, far more repression than in the US and that he then would not do so because he is a better man than these dictators regarding morals; then I have an incredibly shabby bridge to sell them

His mind certainly has, if he ever had one he hasn’t now.

Feel free to add anything of substance to this debate.

Because otherwise, all you do is hide behind the skirts of others.

If there was any doubt that the Tangerine twat intended to be a dictator for a lot longer than day one,6 months in and it is getting worse,I refer to the abomination that he has just unleashed on DC,on top of LA,and sacking anyone who doesn’t kowtow before his shittiness.
Picking on people struggling is utter crap, even from him!
Surely many are waking up to what they have done, and of course those who couldn’t be arsed in November.
The well used banana republic term may well apply very soon.

If you are going to post crap like this, why don’t you link to the peer reviewed studies. You seem to be confusing gender incongruence, gender dysphoria, paraphilia and some wild imaginings about sex offenders.

I’m actually just curious where you dig this stuff up from. I can’t imagine it is DSM-5. Was it that episode of South Park where Mr. Garrison gets a sex change operation on a whim? You do realise that’s satire?

Regarding the sector I work in, it was interesting (well, more worrying) that in a conversation with a major US client, they mentioned that a letter had been sent from the government to the company to lower their prices or else… I mean, what do you even do with that, how do you even respond. The ripple effects, however they respond, will be global and I guess my curiosity is more with how the investors / shareholders are playing this. How does the company placate the government’s request and at the same time protect their long term goals - because the industry needs long time lines and of course to replenish pipelines, also requires time…

I am notoriously naĆÆve, but I thought that Republicans were in favour of the free market. How can they agree with the government telling companies what prices to charge?
