Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 4)

Dont criticize us for starting a dumb war, criticize them for not having great ideas of how to fix the mess we created

They’re doing it again. Yesterday Abdul was asked at an event if he would disavow the Muslim brotherhood, asked as some kind of expected gotchya. He did so unequivocally and immediately and then turned into a discussion of what was going on that he’d even be asked the question.

Yet the right are out there today pretending he refused to disavow them. Many are even using the video of the exchange as ā€œevidenceā€ when it says the exact opposite. We now know the questioner was a paid rat fucker and seems the RW accounts were prepped for the story of Abdul getting trapped by this question and even when it didn’t happen they are just running with that story anyway

Surprisingly , or at least it was to me , government corruption is now the No1 issue for most Americans ahead of the mid-terms. (According to a Fox poll no less.) Unsurprisingly , the Dems are going hard on linking it to the affordability issue to try and close the deal.

And , typically , Trump manages to make the whole thing worse with an off-hand comment made at a recent rally. Speaking about the controversial promise to give $5,000 for every American adult , which he calls the Trump dividend , he says of how a couple might spend their little windfall ;

ā€œLet’s go to Palm Beach and join the president for lunch. Let’s have lunch at Mar-a-Lago, where for $5,000, you’ll get one hamburger and a small dessert,ā€ he said, with a laugh. ā€œI shouldn’t say that.ā€ (NYT)

I love how he picked up his coat ready for the moment he was forcibly ejected from the premises, forgetting that the left don’t do that, and he had to just leave on his own.

Sitting US Senator responding to a question about how to respond to a criminal administration: "We have to punish them because its the right thing to do, but we also have to make people realize there is a penalty for willingly joining a corrupt organization.

Member of corrupt political org: ā€œOh my god, this is facism. If they wont let us get away with criming then we will shoot her. We are definitely the good guys in this exchange.ā€

If you ignore what she actually said and imagine she said something completely different then it’s clear that she is no better than Trump

Just seen the latest words of wisdom from Hesgeth on the teatime news.
It’s not like we’re actively searching for reasons to despise that nation, but he’s making it easier (along with his grotesque orange boss)

Most the good ones are annoying as shit and you have to weed through a lot of BS to get to their good content (see bad Nate as an example), but Nate Cohn from the NYT is good. Charlie Cook for an old school approach but he seems to only post links to his substack these days.. Amy Walter largely took of the Cook Political Report from him and she has a lot of good information but couches everything through the most trite conventional wisdom (Trump voters arent racist they just tell polls they have economic anxiety) that can be very misleading about the ā€œwhyā€ of what is going on

Nate Cohn was one I followed last time.

Thanks for the reminder.

Trump and MAGA are really panicking now.
Trying to draw parallels with the demos in France is surely the act of a drowning man.
France is about prices etc,the very thing he is causing at home, and not being the flavour of the month for it.
Meanwhile his goons are justified in shooting a baby in his mothers arms.
France looks like a genteel garden party by comparison.

It’s a bleak reading and it only reinforces what Arminius and others have stated that Trump is a symptom, not the cause.

Amy Walter was on PSA yesterday. I’m only halfway through it but can’t recall anything particularly illuminating that she has had to say so far.

Forget lettuce, that was way too big a stretch.

She didn’t even outlast left out guacamole going brown

The cause are the billionaires and their corporations. Trump is the symptom
