Voxpops is the worst way to present political debate.
I’ll elaborate, here are 4 people we randomly found (you asked far more than 4) we need short snippet answers so cut anyone who goes into the slightest bit of detail.
Then the editor finally has the ability to go with what they want so they could meet 100 people and only 2 back Trump and yet for balance those 2 would make it.
I did some work experience in a local paper it’s the easiest way to present news but also the most likely to be skewered without attempting to do it.
And I’m not saying there are plenty of his support but his approval ratings would suggest it’s almost 2-1 against right now, if that isn’t showing on your Voxpop then it’s your duty to get it to show.
Doing a degree in politics and comms often makes you feel hopeless as you can see through the data sometimes but I do generally think that both houses will be Democrat at this point. But right now the polling does not to me suggest a bearable night or anything more for them. Polls will be baked in so any changes probably won’t show and if they do be really wary especially if nothing suggests a movement.
Brexit was my best prediction in politics even though it utterly depressed me. However it all comes with a Keynes type caveat, if the facts change then I’ll change my mind.
The issue is the mother lost custody when Acton was only 12 over abuse and neglect that saw her husband, the step dad to the kids, go to jail. The mother sided with the husband over the kids and as a result the kids claim there has been no contact with her since they left.
If he is roundly beaten in the midterms, and the Democrats hopefully take control of both the House and the Senate, we will have the prospect of a government that might start to function again. It won’t be smooth or easy. But right now, by and large, there is only one branch of government, and it’s all being bent to the will of Donald Trump. Hopefully the last two years of his Presidency will see some accountability starting to come his way after a big midterm loss.
If and when his power is reduced, and he is eventually out of office, it will be a great day. That’s because he is a cause of a lot of the problems we have been seeing.
But of course he is also a symptom, and I do see that side of the argument too. There has been a basening of the population, a lurch to the right, a certain racism or nativism that is on the rise (not unlike other countries to be fair) and all those things go well beyond Trump. They will not magically be sorted out once he is gone, so I do agree that he is a symptom, too.
Still, if his power is diminished in the midterms, it will be a step in the right direction. And when he is out of office it will be another step in the right direction.
I suspect there is worse to come, mind, perhaps with martial law, perhaps with Elon Musk helping him to rig the midterms, or something like that.
But as for Trump being symptom/cause, my view is it is a little from column A and a little from column B.
Before Meta he was a participant in the Brooks Brothers riot, and was some form of special assistant for policy to the president during the Iraq war planning,
This is not about antisemitism. If it was they wouldnt be willing to throw a key race to a party loaded with virulent antisemites, is led by a guy who was out there throwing out Shylock slurs only yesterday, and is indirectly supporting a campaign staffed by holocaust deniers.
This is just about Israel. These are single issue voters, with that issue being what happens to a foreign country. They are willing to trade worse antisemitism at home in exchange for the ongoing support of Israel. I’m not going to endorse any of the “vote blue no matter who” stuff because if this is genuinely the trade off they are willing to make then vote your conscience. But lets stop the charade of pretending this is about anything else.
This Michigan race really is a microcosm of every fucked up thing in our politics right now.
By the end of the race for the Dem nomination it was the outsider Pro-Palestine Arab vs the establishment “I dream of Israel” candidate who broke records for the amount of money her campaign had for a primary. The overwhelming majority of that money came from AIPAC and other Israel aligned groups. This shows where that money is now going in the general election campaigns - the money that made this the most expensive Democratic primary ever is now fueling the Republican opponent
Prior to this being a 2 horse race there was a third candidate who started off as the presumptive favourite. She was outsidery enough for people who didnt want to vote for Schumer’s hand picked and boosted candidate, lefty enough for the base to support her, but not scary like the Arab guy. But then suddenly her support evaporated and she was forced to drop out of the race after her money dried up. Once that starts happening it become like a boulder rolling down a hill and is almost impossible for a campaign to turn it around. We now have a clear admission that the poll that started that slide for her was completely made up. They are now claiming they did it to prove a point that polling can be manipulated by bad actors which is like saying you shot a man because you wanted to see what dying looks like.
Dont worry, guys. Trump is on this. President shit for brains may be an idiot and has only ever been right about something by accident, but he has been watching this one closely.
