Is that image for real? So what do we call this guy? Pocket Nazi? Midget Mussolini? Hobbit Himmler?

I’m guessing it is. These goons now see fascist iconography as something virtuous.

Already made a European venture to meet all the usual suspects, like Austria’s Sellner and AfD people, at a ‘Remigration Summit’ in Portugal. Very popular with that crowd of course.

Just want to say well done to the people at game three of the NBA finals. Mostly a Knicks home crowd, and Trump muscled in on it as he loves the spotlight and he loves to steal virtue. Well, the crowd gave him what for. During the national anthem the camera panned to Trump. Presumably the director thought it was safe to do it then, as it was during a ‘sacred’ moment when surely the crowd would behave.

Well done the New York crowd. You instantly gave it to him, and the boos were loud and clear, ringing out all around Madison Square Garden and across the world.

There’s a reason he scuttles off the Mar-a-pedo…I mean lago when not in DC. Even though he was born and brought up in New York.

New York, especially NYC, hates his guts.

Do Refs have a union ? They could basically stop the tournament (and do everyone a favour) over this.

FIFA would just hire NFL refs step in

No idea but I bet you’ll see everyone quietly shrugging their shoulders and ignoring this.

Begs the question if any players / teams will have difficulty entering the US?

They already have.

Yeah, not a single player or team has decided not to go either. How is this different to the Olympics and The old USSR back in the day?

Does my memory serve me right in thinking Germany did think about a boycott a short while ago?

There has been a reevaluation of the benefit of boycotts since the 80s arguing they don’t work and are often counter productive. But I think that is largely a bullshit excuse that just gets a national org off the hook for not having to show balls to pull their team out of an immoral competition.

It was mainly the DFB vice president (who’s also the St Pauli president, so he was on brand there) who talked about it plus a few second tier politicians for like a day. The big bosses were all against it.
Anyone who wanted a boycott, is of course still free to just boycott by not watching.

I have turned down free tickets to a Toronto match. I am utterly disgusted by CSA’s involvement in this.

What have they done?

You could tell this World Cup was going to be a shitshow back when the bid was assembled in Trump’s first term, even if we didn’t know that Trump would be back in. Canada and Mexico both accepted a secondary role in order to put the bid in as a ‘North American World Cup’ and right from the start it was organized with American priorities dominant. It has devolved steadily from there - pricing scandals (what FIFA is doing is contrary to Ontario law). A horrific waste of tax dollars too, with the usual specious ‘long term benefit’ claims. - that money would have been far better spent on building grassroots sports capacity and infrastructure. Instead we are underwriting motorcades for corrupt FIFA functionaries.

Of course. All roads lead to Canadian infrastructure.

To be fair, when you are #233 of 245 for population density, it does come up from time to time
