The Taiwanese are quietly terrified that Trump will be suckered into making some major concessions no one in the White House clearly understands, in exchange for something completely unrelated (perhaps around Iran).
In particular, changing the US position on Taiwanese independence from ‘does not approve’ to ‘opposes’. Absolutely no one in that delegation is likely to understand what kind of victory that would be for Xi, and the signal it would send to Taiwan.

I wonder if China may first seek to encourage Trump to think he has done enough to develop sufficient capacity in the US to secure its chip supply and thereby lessen any need to support Taiwan?

dont think it would have mattered much even if he did have an expert with him,
during his visit to China in 2017 he had a expert on China with him,
and at 1 point the expert was led away by the Chinese,
and Xi, his advisors and Donald were left to chat alone in then Forbidden city,
I got the impression that Xi ran rings around Donald.

A judge was about to throw trump’s IRS case out of court so the two outrageously conflicted sides pivoted to a settlement that grants Trump protection against audits and sets up a $2b fund to support people who want to challenge the IRS on claims the Biden admin pursued them for political purposes.
