Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 4)

The $1.776B “anti-weaponization fund” announced today is a theft of our tax dollars and a fraud on the American people. Only Congress has legal authority to appropriate funds; dressing it up as a “settlement” of Trump’s sham lawsuit against the IRS does not make it legal. Congress needs to step up and block this criminal settlement before Trump helps himself to the rest of our tax dollars.

Not only are we now not “releasing the files” but we’re taking out anyone who thought that was a serious statement of intent and tried to make it happen

What a sensible head this lady has on her shoulders… Not sure the ‘waffler’ Kennedy would want to go up against her again.
Well Done Meghan Ranney…
Lots more like her please to sort the world out…

Very sensible person, with an idiot trying to corner her.
Know who came
across far better, but it is the US,where it is OK for some family to to do what they fucking well like ,as we have just seen, why not make it a free for all where everyone can?
Of course I am not serious, but just where is that country going?

What astounds even more are the journalists who simply don’t hold to task idiots who. are demonstrably stupid, vacuous and sychophantic in the extreme.

Yup, a lot of journalists* need to learn what their role is, the media last week in the UK were quite frankly awful. It’s the footballisation of everything. And yet people like this and take Farage in the UK they won’t challenge.

*I excuse columnists, they are there for clickbait shite that no one should take seriously, however they should be sent to the depths of the ocean prefably in a xbox controller manned submersive.

I studied journalism as part of my course in Language and Linguistics so I have a dim view of it as it is currently.

Not much fanfare in the United States, but the Trump administration has withdrawn from the Joint Defence Board saying that Canada is not taking an active enough role in defending the continent. May well connect to the Greenland aspirations they hold.

The bitter irony of the JDB is that it was set up in 1940 as a forum for the neutral US government led by a friendly Roosevelt to look at the issues threatening North America with Canada at war, most notably U-boats lurking sometimes just outside the 12-mile limit from the US shore while American isolationists argued the US should do nothing.

Landry was making a dumb point, but he was using “put it on the map” in a figurative sense. He was not suggesting that literal maps did not include Greenland.

I’ve just listened to a Reform nobhead dribbling on for about ten minutes on Radio 4 about the need to drill all of the oil out of the North Sea to protect our energy independence and at no point did the anchor step in to point out she was talking utter bollocks.

She should have told theres very little oil left in the North Sea as Scotland was told im 2014…

I’ve kinda detached myself from US politics now , the corruption and criminality is so off the wall that it’s hard to look for anything meaningful in what happens there now.

But still , out of a lingering sense of curiosity , are we really to believe that once Trump has gone , there can now be no consequences for his sons , Kushner , Witkoff et al who have participated in this plunder ?

I’m not sure if any of you are familiar with the term ‘State Capture’. It’s literally what’s happened to the US where Trump and family are now making the State work for them, subverting Laws that could hinder them, installing loyalists or hollowing out agencies that could stop them while using the mechanisms of the State to enrich themselves.

Not sure they can be stopped now. There is enough wealth there now for the family of the orange stain to remain the Achilles Heel of the US for generations.

Im kind off in the same boat. The stock trades story is astounding. The volume of them. The clear connection between what he was trading the business that his office was doing. The demonstrable lying from his family about the way they handle their businesses and money. And then I saw a summary of the amount of coverage the main stream press was devoting to it which was essentially 0 and I was outraged. My reflex was to post it here but then I stopped thinking “what does this add to the conversation?”

It is possible the most brazen act of corruption in US political history and it doesn’t move the needle at all.

One of the amusing things about his first term was how small fry he was with the corruption. It wasnt through lack of effort, but more just a demonstration that he still didnt really understand the power of the office. He was spending 24/7 looking for opportunities for self-enrichment, but doing it in five figure sums here and there, like a second rate NY construction guy. I think the main thing he learned from his time away is how much is on the table for him if he just understood the scope better
