The problem is that the AI images will have been trained on real images, and the original victim may still be recognisable. There is a false assumption that once an individual is several steps away from a crime that there is no victim.

US ICE grants $16.7 million contract to buy thousands of electric shock gloves

WASHINGTON, Aug 27 (Reuters) - The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency granted a $16.7 million contract to buy 6,000 pairs of electric shock gloves for officers in the field despite human rights advocates having raised alarm about the plans when they were revealed earlier this month.

A notice on a federal database said that ICE, which has been the face of President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown, entered into a no-bid contract to purchase the gloves from Kentucky-based firm Compliant Technologies.

The notice said 6,000 of the devices, which can give painful electric shocks and aim to disrupt an individual’s capacity to respond, will be bought with support equipment and services over the next six months.

Just want to note that you are forgetting something incredibly important when you say this. Delivery Time. The reasom why states are rushing to get modern fighters is that they are needed within a narrow time frame. Vladimir Putin doesn’t care about internal western drama, he cares about how many aircrafts you have operational and which type.
Never forget what the planes are for. Credible deterrence. It’s possible that Canada now can switch, it is already running incredibly late in getting new aicrafts, but have so far only payed for 16 F-35, so can maybe in practice buy Gripen or Korean for the rest (must probably be Gripen unless you don’t care about getting the actual plane this century).
But I note that none of you seem to even remember that NATO must be War Ready in 2030. Not many years to play games left. This rearmament comes much too slow anyway. Postponing jets will be a another nail in the coffin for the alliance and another victory for the Kremlin.
But yes, F-35 deal, and deals such as that, well there are certain issues that takes priority over other matters and delivery time and capability is key.
