Surprised Tomiri is not there
You can make a pretty nice side out of that (minus keeper and CBs), but there are some really unimpressive names included.
For definite it will be
GK
RB
LB
CB
2 from the group listed as forwards
For the remaining one, probably another RB, but maybe not if heās thinking about Walker as part of three man defense.
If I had to guess it would be:
- Ramsdale
- James
- Godfrey
- White
- Saka
- Watkins
Last one, who knows.
I hope TAA and Henderson are 2 of those 7.
Definitely wonāt be taking 4 RB.
Unless he plans on using Walker as a right sided CB as he did in the World Cup.
Gotta be truthful there are some terrible omissions from that team.
Ings and Bamford left out and Watkins and Greenwood in? Mmmm
Hendo is going, Iām sure.
Heās fit, started training in last days and is a bit too important (both as a player and experienced leader) considering Englandās lack of proper central midfielders.
The way heās spoken earlier about their versatility I donāt think itās beyond the realms of possibility he does take all four. A switch to a back three at some point seems likely to me, which opens up the opportunity to use Walker or James as the RCB. Questions over Henderson and Riceās fitness could result in James or Trent being useful to have in order to cover the midfield. Trippier is capable of playing LB as well so it wouldnāt be a huge surprise if Chilwell is left out imo.
Not sure if they are terrible omissions. Doubt Watkins will go and Greenwood is a fantastic player, makes more sense to take him to a tournament than Ings or Bamford.
No idea who heāll eventually drop but Iād probably leave out these
- Ramsdale
- Coady, White or Mings (Konsa and Tomori both more deserving of a spot)
- Trippier
- JWP
- Lingard
- DCL
- Watkins
Trippier has just won the league in Spain and by all accounts seems to be playing well (not that Iāve seen but if you listen to people who follow that league).
I am surprised that Wan Bissaka isnāt there actually.
Wow England have some maxing RBs donāt they
Goalkeeping looks pretty dire without Pope to be honest.
I think Iād start Johnstone.
Iād be starting Wayne Shaw over a couple of the keepers in the squad
Nah not that dickhead.
Whys he a dickhead?
I only remember the pie eating tbh
So whatās the 11?
Pickford (my god thatās terrible)
TAA Stones Maguire Chilwell
Phillips or Rice
Henderson Mount
Foden Kane Grealish
I think thatās what I would do, except maybe Mings for Stones. Not sold on Stones at all. I am sure instead heāll have a back 5 with Walker and Trippier, and who knows what the attack will look like. Iād play most of the kids though. Mount, Grealish, Foden, none play like the shirt weighs a thousand pounds. Sterling, Sancho, or Rashford to come on and shake things up. If you donāt look too closely at the CBs and the GK, good team on paper. CBs might be good enough on the day.
Pope is head and shoulders above that lot sadly he got injured.
I canāt see Grealish starting ahead of Sterling (although he has been assigned the number 7 so that could prove me wrongā¦)
Southgate has said Maguire is unlikely to be fit for the first game so I imagine that will mean we play 5 at the back, something like this?
------------------Pickford-------------------
Trent Walker Coady Stones Chilwell
--------------Hendo Rice------------------
------Mount -------------Foden------------
-----------------Kane------------------------
When Maguire is fit I would hope Southgate has the confidence to play a 433, something like;
------------------Pickford-------------------
Walker --MaguireāStones --Chilwell
--------------Hendo Rice------------------
-------------------Mount -------------------
-Sterling---------Kane---------Fodenā
Pickford isnāt the first choice goalie, is he? Been a long time since I watched an England game, but surelyā¦?
I like that squad though, apart from the group at centre back. And the goalies. Henderson is pretty good, Pickford is Pickford and the other guy Iām assuming is third choice.
Going forward though, thereās a lot to be excited about. Foden, Sancho, Grealish, Kane +++. Lots to choose from. Iām hoping they give Bellingham minutes as well, heās been impressive at Dortmund considering his age.
With Pickfordās increasingly erratic form they have given Pope a chance in several of the recent games. He hasnt really inspired confidence though and has made himself unavailable because of injury anyway.
This has the makings of a pretty decent side with the exception of CB and goalie
Itās complicated becauseā¦
Pickford stylistically suits them well, has good reflexes, is quick. But also very wild and prone to errors.
Pope is good between the sticks as a more defensive goalie and the question remains if he can do that in a team set up very differently from Burnley.
Henderson youād hope from an England perspective was brought up āwellā at United, but didnāt play many games this season.
