Honestly, I’m intrigued by this prospect just because of the usual canard about top club managers and international management and all that.
Could be the dumpster fire everyone is hoping for, or it could be revolutionary for England. I suspect that either way the narratives have already been written, and what actually happens will matter little.
Don’t know, but might be the perfect job for him. He can be tactically pragmatic and the nature of the job means there might not be enough time spend with the humans involved to get on their nerves enough. Just keep him out of base camp pre-tournament and they might be fine.
England have enough good players that they will give enough reasons for optimism with anyone as manager. They also have enough weaknesses that when it comes to tournament football they are going to need an awful amount of luck for it to come out in their favour.
It’s basically the perfect set of ingredients for Tuchel to initially win over sections of the fan base currently unhappy about the appointment only for him to be kicked out in a wave of xenophobic vitriol once Maguire scores a last minute own goal against Pickford to lose a semi final
In fairness, it’s moaning about the number of international fixtures. It seems to indicate that if he had taken over now, they would be keener to show up.
Seems to make zero sense if I am honest. Like they would show up for the new guy but are injured for the other guy even though these games are actually official fixtures. Like I agree its a bit silly all these games with breaks when hardly anything has got underway but this just seems blame Tunchel for the clubs effectively cheating.
There’s too much football being played, and way too much international football. I can’t stand all the international breaks.
Football injuries come in two broad categories. First, you are injured, and that’s that. This type of injury comes in lots of shapes and sizes, but the bottom line is, you are not playing.
Second, you are somewhat injured, or carrying a knock or whatever, and playing is subjective. Are you a crucial player? Are you part of a big squad? Can you have a run out for 20-30 mins? What about the opposition? Is it do or die in a knockout? Are you expected to win even if you miss out? What about the size of the game? Is it a final and you have to do all you can to play? Or is it a more mundane fixture and there will be another game, perhaps bigger, just around the corner? Etc.
The bottom line with this level of injury is that playing is subjective, and you might or might not play due to numerous factors.
It is very understandable to see that the outgoing interim England manager will not enjoy all of his top stars giving every last ounce of effort to be there for him.
This is the issue that UEFA tried to resolve. In the past fans/us/clubs/everyone was moaning that there were to many meaningless friendlies, and it was affecting the players with extra travel etc. We were all hoping these friendlies would be scrapped.
UEFA took it the other way and rather than scrapping the meaningless friendlies altogether, they’ve made a more “meaningful” tournament (that I still don’t fully understand). In the process of doing this, those clubs that are unlikely to win the Euros or WC see this tournament as an opportunity to add silverware meaning that these nations take it seriously and the intensity goes up - injuries increase etc etc.
