That’s a gross slander…
…on Lurch.
Lurch doesn’t look a bit like Foden
For a moment thought it was Claude on the right.
Who’s we? LFC didn’t play!
Southgate’s bores.
I was dreading a Italy vs. Turkey or Portugal vs. Hungary game where Scotland will be put under the cosh and once they crack, they will splinter into pieces. Credit to England, they actually made a game out of it.
Oops, must be “heart” of course.
It reminded me a bit of us in that painful period last season.
Kane is not the answer on the back of those first two games. The frontline needs to be more dynamic and once Foden has run himself out of the game after the first 20 as he has done twice it doesn’t seem to get better.
Sterling was dreadful last night and better options existed but Southgate wouldn’t risk it and probably won’t for the final game expect that to be a narrow 1-0 eithier way or 0-0.
This isn’t Italy or France.
Lee Dixon thinks it’s a penalty
The managers. Germany has a plan for whom to appoint for Managers. Italy has always appointed people who’ve won leagues as managers. England on the other hand seem to choose between who are available as a manager. Barring Sven Goran Erikkson and Fabio Capello to an extent , None of the other managerial appointments are anything better than… “He’s available , He’s cheap and he’s interested”
Eddie Howe would at least make us watchable but I think it’s the issue with English managers, I think we are seeing them coming through but it was always going take until the lot who had played pretty much their careers under the new style international coaches to see a change when it’s easier to sit 10 behind the ball and lump it.
Potter and Howe to me seem decent, Rodgers (Northern Ireland) isn’t bad so they are coming through however it’s still easier to appoint someone like that above than risk expanding.
Intriguing it is Swansea and Bournemouth those who went several divisions that appointed expansive coaches but as you say it’s a blueprint.
The two international coaches haven’t been the best eithier.
Germany appoints Hansi Flick as a manager. Pretty sure, there would have been discussions with Jurgen Klopp about being a German Manager as well. That’s the caliber of coaches they look at when they are appointing someone to the national team.
In England , They’re stuck with choosing someone “local” even if it means uninspiring and non competent guys like Sam Allardyce , Roy & Southgate.
Rodgers would do a fine job as a national team coach imo. But coaches in England seem to see the national team job as something that’s not worth their time. If southgate gets fired , It’ll probably be one of the boys like Frank Lampard who’ll get the job. Not someone like Howe or Potter who are outsiders. At worst , They’ll get Parker the job when he gets fulham relegated again.
I agree on this too. The International Coaches haven’t delivered either. But that’s more because it’s a difference of scouting. It needs to be a project and none of the coaches(both domestic and international) ever seemed to take it like a project.
Did Southgate ever play in the CL for/with his club to gain European experience…?
Cant remember him ever having an inspirational playing career to be honest… So what should we really expect from the plank!
Come on lets be serious. Scotland had to work very hard for that draw and England supporters booed a lot (even more than pissed off supporters of France).
Scotland looked more capable of nicking the win. They almost sorted their strikers being far too isolated, Robbo was a great captain encouraging his team to slow it down unforyunately Tierney kept fucking it up with his impatience.
England just didn’t have anything between the lines let alone movement on the, what? 3 occassions they did they created good occassions. That Kane never saw the ball except in DM positions was the proof of this. Sterling was shit I know inside forwards tend to run into traffic but this numpty was dealt with in one on one situations where he should have done better with a slick pass or a decent dribble (how Southgate kept him on is anyones guess yet the numpty took off Foden? who look wise looked frightening.
I think any team that manages to support their strikers will beat England. Scotland couldn’t because they couldn’t ask more of their midfield yet just a small jump in quality and that constraint would evaporate.
Excellent game from Scotland! It’s the first match I followed from beginning to end. The suspense was there, and 0-0 wasn’t a fair reflection of the game, as it had goals in it. 1-1 or maybe 2-1 for the Scots would have been a logical score.
The fighting spirit, the readiness to run the extra mile, but also some good football at times helped them throughout the game. England looked a bit out of sorts, but I think that’s rather a reflection of Scotland’s never-ending pressing, and that they maybe aren’t as good as they think they are in terms of quality.
Yeah, Stones header on the post from a corner, and that would have changed the game, but overall, they didn’t produce enough from open play to pretend winning the three points. That ©°~† Pickford saved them a point on that half-volley from O’Donnell in the first half and a bit more clinical finishing in front of goal would have seen Scotland take the three points.
Anyway, well done, and Scotland-Croatia will be an interesting one to watch!
Edit: oh, and these so-called England ‘supporters’ could take a leaf or two from their Scottish counterparts; booing their hosts anthem, booing their own team at half-time, booing at the end of the game. These idiots can get lost as far as I’m concerned.
Contrast that with the 2k Scots who created a hell of an atmosphere in that usually ghost-like stadium, chanting and supporting their team every minute of the game. Hats off to them!
Good or Bad… that Scotland team know their fanbase is 1000% behind them…
Can’t say the same for the England fans at wembley last night…
Maybe there is a connection between being supported properly… or not eh!
Don’t need to be a good player to be a good manager.
Was referring more to European experience than actual playing ability…
As a club manager for eg…
did he ever manage a club side in any form of European environment…?
Better to have the experience than not me thinks…
Think any manager to be considered for the national team needs to perform above expectations with the resources they’ve been given at club level at the very least. Whether it means performances in european football , I dont know.
Ofcourse, Germany’s strategy of having a plan and building managers around that core group and passing on to assistant managers etc also works…
But if people are looking amongst the club scene , He/She should have overachieved , with good positive football from the resources that they’ve been given… to be considered as a candidate for a national manager. That clearly isn’t happening
