Euro 2020 Archive Thread

I give you de Vrij whom I forgot but Aké, so far he plays at Bournemouth level for all we know and that Manchester albino is nothing special and Klopp got everything out of Wijnaldum, he will be worthless for Holland due to fatigue.

Haven’t paid any attention to international footy since WC, are France strong favourites for this? Who do others see as possible challengers… Portugal? And the usual suspects Italy, Germany and Spain? England to ‘heroically’ get knocked out in QF or SF?

The men’s French team is so full of fannies that they could play in the women’s tournaments.

Been told Portugal are quite strong, but yeah I’m a bit out of the loop on it.

That Portugual vs Italy was crazy.

Seem to have a soft spot for all their teams since I started to learn the language.

Greenwood ruled out of Euro 2020.

Failed to recover from injury.

“Mason’s club appearances were managed carefully to maintain his availability through the intensive 2020-21 Premier League and Europa League schedules,” United said. “But a further spell of tournament football would not be beneficial and Mason will remain at Manchester United to recuperate and prepare for pre-season training.”

The omission of Ward-Prowse suggests the England manager is confident regarding the fitness of Jordan Henderson.

Why aren’t we doing the same as United and saying that Hendo needs to recuperate for preseason?? Also same with all our players who have been injured this season in other squads?
There is a long history of United ensuring their players are not overly burdened by international footie but we never seem to discourage participation. No way that our Brazilian lads should have been allowed to fly off to South America given the situation in Argentina and why didn’t we stop players from travelling last international round??

4 RBs in the squad - okay then

and three left backs if you include Saka!!

I think we will see Trent used as a back up midfielder, very lite in that department.

I’d have left Saka out and added James Ward-Prowse so there’s another proper CM in there. I’ve not seen enough of Jude Bellingham to comment on how good he is, but Ward-Prowse is decent, not that either will play much I assume.

The main pairing/trio in the middle will be Hendo and Rice, or Hendo, Rice and Mount

Hendo
Trent Bellingham

could be a good looking mf three

Foden, Saka, James and Trent could all play midfield if required. Don’t think they are as light as people might think.

I completely agree with that. Hendo, Rice and Mount in front is a strong starting midfield (could be very strong!) but we are clutching gat straws if Hendo or Rice can’t play for whatever reason.

Still there are a lot of very good player in that squad, best England squad for a very long time.

Not elated about the inclusion of a recovering Henderson and a knackered TAA. :palms_up_together::pray:

Whilst I agree with this statement, I worry when it’s Southgate potentially making that decision. We all know 100% that if Trent players there and England get knocked out, the media will get it’s vicious microscope out and he will get a right good kicking on social media. For that reason, I’d rather he just played at RWB or RB.

Gets worse, they ain’t flying to Argentina… but Brazil

Have they cancelled it yet? Both hosts are out as I understand it; are they really still looking for alternatives??

They’ve moved it to Brazil after Bolosarno offered the opportunity, it’s like jumping from the frying pan into the fire and if you want to look at sports washing it’s up there.

Bolosarno the man whose almost 25% behind a guy who he has successfully once removed from running for office is now “bringing football home” to a country that’s seeing healthy 22-23 year olds end up on deaths door (couple of my partners friends, luckily they got vaccines in France and have now got Pfizer jab over there).

If they want to host it they should ask the USA in the north otherwise I don’t think there is a suitable country to hold it. Unless it’s all done at one stadium behind closed doors.
