Six groups of four teams, with four of the six 3rd place teams to go through. Has a whiff of the Europa League about it.
The World Cup from 2026, will be 16(!) groups of three teams, then a straight knock out. The knock out part is fine and meaningful. But those weird three team groups has the West Germany-Austria 1982 debacle written all over it.

I assume it will take 2 months to complete being 80 games unless they are going stick 5 on a single date but I doubt it with the weather.
You of course will still play 7 games.
Though with groups of 3 you will get some intriguing groups. You could say it’s 16 whipping boys but the African teams often add an unpredictablity something this tournament doesn’t offer with pretty much allowing every team bar the bottom one through and it’s why it’s made some games very poor.
Ironically those you expect to be poor haven’t.

I get the feeling Wilson will get more game time against Italy on sunday,playing the same team 2 games on the trot, in an energy sapping 30+ degree heat in Baku,they looked out on their feet at the end of the Turkey game.I’d be suprised if he doesn’t start or play 45mins at least.

Varane made lots of erriors against Germany. Made lots of errors at the start against a pressing Hongrie. Then a Lovrenesque error for hongries goal.
A player who reached great heights very young but has never got close since.
France have dominated and should have scored. Pogba very good again except that stupid shot that he should have pulled back. In fact if anything is going to stop France from winning this competition is stupidity, arrogance and petulance.
Also for the first 10 minutes I thought it was going to be a battle of the cunts, Oliver is reffing very well.
