I wish the English anthem didn’t have any words.
They mean that England are like West Ham and Germany are like Spurs in this comparison.
It’s definitely more important to the English.
I was devastated in 1970 and 1996, but may even support Germany this time. I’ve lived here almost half my life and feel more at home here now.
If Germany win, they’ll be happy, but not as insufferable as the English. You can be sure that no-one will be talking about the war over here.
Not sure Neville will be interested either!
Scatter our enemies,
And make them fall!
Confound their politics,
Frustrate their knavish tricks,
This bit is brilliant.
Really?? Banks, Clemence, Shilton. Yeh, they were really shit.
Maybe the point is that was a very long time ago…
Of course not. It’s just football ‘banter’, don’t take it so seriously.
I’m just responding to a generalisation.
I’ll give you Banks and Clemence booth great goalkeepers but Shilton? Nothing special.
I can’t believe you’ve just said that.
Shall I say it again?
If you want to. There’s a lot of ridiculous comments on here.
Way to short for a good goalkeeper, even Prickford has longer arms.
Not saying that he was shite but more like average for me.
Nothing much to talk about England keepers after Seaman (to some extent) though… It is a problem area with T-Rex being a particular liability
That kind of folkloristic, slightly stupid football banter tends to be not very subtle/objective…
The main thing I had about Shilton… was that he prevented the great Ray Clemence from amassing near 200 caps for England.
There was a policy back in the day that both goalkeepers were so good, that they were rotated for each international… when any LFC fan could have told the London press, RC was far the better of the two, so why even rotate at all…!
Did you just call my comment about Clemence, Banks and Shilton, stupid? I think I’ll walk away from this, before it rapidly goes downhill.
Geez. I was talking about the cliche line that gets thrown around in Germany that English goalkeepers are ‘always shit’. It’s a stupid line that stuck sometime ago and gets repeated in a ‘banter’ kind of context. Most of the people who will say it will have no idea of Banks or Clemence anyway.
never heard of Banks.
Don’t agree with Klinsmann. England have the better squad. But it’s not the only factor that counts.
