There was a 1-5 against Germany in Munich with Liverpool players getting all the goals.
Well … apart from the 1-5 against Germany in Munich with Liverpool players getting all the goals it was the best England performance since the days of Alf Rameses II.
Even Heskey scored
1996 (Southgates playing era) England 4 Holland 1 That was a great performance in my memory.
In the competition England beat Spain in a penalty shoot out Quarter finals and then lost to Germany in a penalty shoot out. (That was a good team).
I love the way each time Stones bails him out they do a high five dance.
I think the ref did a good job, didn‘t he?
I agree, he was very good. He was even handed and did his best to allow the game to flow, much to my (pleasant) surprise.
Another occasion when an “Ironic” font wouldn’t go amiss?
Fantastic England won the Euro’s. Well done lads. It’s funny cos I thought that there were still some games to play, but reading the papers and pundits this morning, it looks like I was wrong. When is the parade?
Fuck sake man. They’ve played 5 games, conceded 0 goals and just utterly a thrashed a side to earn a semi final spot. you don’t have to enjoy it, but at least acknowledge the subjective reason to praise what they’ve done.
Don’t get me wrong, they’ve done well, and they are as good an England team as I’ve seen.
I just think the way they are seemingly being awarded the trophy now by section of the media is setting everyone up for a fall. I hope Southgate has them grounded, because if they do get to the final, it will be the first time in the tournament they’ll have had to play a good football team.
Have a day off will you. Just let us enjoy this for as long as it lasts.
I don’t think the players being grounded will be an issue with Southgate. That is the side of management that he seems to do very well. I have confidence that the players will be approaching the Denmark game with the right mindset, not something I could have said about many England sides of the past.
Bloody hell. I’ve already said they’ve done really well. Enjoy yourself. I’m not stopping you.
I just think the media and pundits are getting ahead of themselves. Last night after the game Shearer and Rio were talking about who they want in the final. Erm. Denmark first lads?
Media are shit and the first to jump on them when they:if they go out.
All this stuff about Sancho, I doubt they’ve even watched Sancho in the Bundesliga.
What does the media’s excitement have to do with the players staying grounded?
I remember that game. It was my future wifes 20th birthday. I took her to a pub and sat at a table with a TV just above her head.
You were lucky. The tv in our pub was broken so the landlord wheeled in a decades old CRT from the kitchen that we all had to crowd around .
Anyway as for current England. It should not come as a surprise that the national media is overhyping the team. That has been the case in every single tournament since 1996. Every time we have to get revenge, or it’s a golden generation or a new foreign manager. This time it’s Southgate’s retribution for missing the penalty.
Should they immediately get knocked out by Denmark, it will be ‘agony’ for England fans (showing pics of grown men crying which for some reason nobody will take the piss out of on social media).
Once the World Cup rolls round then no doubt Phil Mcnulty will be telling us why “this time it’s different”, how much more mature and experienced the team is and that’s why this is Englands best chance since 1990 to win the World Cup!!! It’s predictable because the media isn’t capable of anything else. And it’s not just England, both Scotland and Wales got pushed in the hype train despite never having a cat in hells chance.
But we as Liverpool fans should know better than anyone that how the media portrays something at any given moment is not a good reason for your own opinion on that thing.
Badly behaved fans? Yes I mean it’s not like Scotland fans travelled without tickets, spread the virus around and trashed the capital. No Italian or Russian fans ever caused any trouble abroad either.
I’m no flag waving patriot, at least not to this country, but it’s obviously giving a boost to a country that’s had a really shit few years. There are more people invested than who voted for Brexit. Once you forget the media bandwagon, it’s 26 lads trying their best to win a few matches through a favourable draw, so far with professional if unspectacular performances, which, had it been France or Germany we’d be calling them favourites based on the same results and performances. It would be ridiculous to not expect them to make the final after beating Germany considering the oppostion and once there, anything could happen. And if they do I’ll be delighted for Hendo and hoping Kane puts his back out while lifting the trophy.
And therein lies part of the problem. If England do lift the trophy, that fat charlatan Bozo will benefit from it.
England got to the knock out phase of the World Cup by beating Panama and Tunisia. They then beat Columbia and Sweden to get to the Semi.
This year they beat Czech Republic and Croatia in the group, and have beaten Germany and Ukraine in the knockouts. Denmark stand between them and the final.
There hype around England, that I just don’t think is justified. They’ve had Man City-esque routes to the later stages of tournaments. Everyone had an absolute wankfest over England at the World Cup, but they played two decent teams in that tournament and got beaten by them both.
I think this time around, they are a better team and have a few things going for them. They are getting their business done without needing extra time, which puts them in good stead re fitness. Later stages of tournaments have always been about who has the most left in their legs. Some of the teams in the quarters looked absolutely goosed. Their defence looks pretty solid (even if it hasn’t been tested). They’ve got their big scalp in Germany (although a pale shadow of that you expect Germany to be).
I know enough people who support England to hope they do well for them, even if I can’t be arsed, and I do think they are a better team than we’ve seen for a long time. They should beat Denmark (but won’t, because my son has them in the sweepstake, and he always wins the sweepstake) and reach the final. But I don’t see them as favourites. The winner of the other semi (probably Italy) will be the favourites.
