Non Dutch manager, not non Dutch wanker.

Gareth Southgate creates an environment for England to get lucky | Jonathan...
Southgate might be better at the management than the football but an implausible triumph for his team is still possible

I was so nervous for Trent. I thought they were setting him to fail. So much pressure on his young shoulders to do the final penalty kick. His parents would have been so proud and his former Anfield Dad.
Iftikharism?
This is so beautiful, two hearts beat as one:heart:
This is wonderful too.

Football related advertising in the Netherlands today.
I forgot that there were border checks coming back into Germany today so I used Jedi mind tricks. “These are not the hooligans you are looking for”
Gakpo’s performance at LW in this tournament and the tail end of last season really cements his position as the starting LW for Liverpool.
English media desperate to create good feelings and not talking about yet another shit performance.
Liverpool fans acting as if it was a five star performance by Trent and the man himself acting as if he has just won ballon d’Or on social media. He scored from a penalty against the shortest keeper in the tournament ffs.
It seems I am not remembering it correctly if they are rebranding it, but wasnt there a story about someone like Kroos (I thought it was Kroos) who used a boot the manufacturer discontinued, but they kept making small runs just for him?
And a German side, who have played much better football than England, got knocked out…
Yes, England have been poor. No two ways about it. And if and when they do lose, it will have been coming. As for Trent, yes he only scored a penalty. Big pressure as the anchor man, but let’s keep some perspective. It was just a penalty, although five well taken penalties is a sea-shift from the numerous English failures we’ve seen over the years from the penalty spot.
And now here we are, with a semi final looming. It’s a weird one, because the progress made in advancing is not in keeping with the quality we’ve seen.
The Guardian article by Jonathan Wilson is one of the better attempts I’ve seen at trying to make sense of it:
Southgate might be better at the management than the football but an implausible triumph for his team is still possible
Southgate’s England career is a perfect example of needing context for statistics. On the one hand the high level statistics are incredible. Before him we had just three semi finals since 1966, and he’s now on his third in 4 tournaments. Yet our record against top tier sides is shit. Every time we have come up against one we have failed to win, arguing that the best thing Southgate has had going for him is a series of favourable draws. He deserves credit for avoiding the banana skin loses that some of his predecessors have had, but he has only progressed by winning games (very rarely convincingly, and often on pens) against sides who themselves were not favoured to go far. Every time they have come up against a side who could give them a signature win comparable to the one over the Dutch under Venables, or Argentina under Sven they have been knocked out. I think even Robson’s wins over Poland in 86 and Belgium in 90 were better than any Southgate has managed in this run (maybe the group stage win over Croatia at the 2020 Euros is comparable). This Dutch team we’re playing on Wednesday now is not really tier A level quality itself, but if we to win it would be the best win any of his sides have managed during this unprecedented run, and that says a lot.

I’m hoping for a England vs France final, with England lifting the trophy. It’s coming home.
Totally wrong Ifti old bean.
Spain because they are the best team playing the best football of those remaining.
Holland because of our lads and having the best fans.
That said, I have a feeling England will grind out a win against the oranges.
Ifti plays games. You have to read between the lines of his posts but hopefully you have better things to do than to read his trickeries.
Put some money on the Euro and Copa Semi finals:
Argentina win by exactly 2 goals
Uruguay vs Colombia draw after regular time
France winning
Netherlands beating England by at least two goals.
Thank you Ifti for putting your hoo-doo on the Brits!
As an avid follower of the Oranje, lo, these many years, I am looking forward to a thrilling upset of England, followed by a heartbreaking defeat at the hands of the Spanish horde.
I’ve seen this movie one too many times.
