I don’t think I will ever see England win any football tournament in my lifetime. We should have the national team disbanded.

I’d like us to drop the ā€œIt’s coming homeā€ the curse is like Babe Ruth’s

Just back from the pub. I think the result is much as I predicted but England did exceed expectations. I’m hoping that Southgate moves on. He has done really well in improving the teams results, but they need someone with the tactical nous to get them to the next level.

Watching the match in Liverpool was fun. It was a really good atmosphere, although I could have done without the pissed bloke with the thick Birkenhead accent discussing the wonders of Jordan Pickford whilst I was trying to use the urinal.

Anyway, when are we on again?

And how many times did he boot the ball long only for it to end up out of play or with an opposing player? His saves are saves that any decent keeper could make. England need one that can also distribute the ball effectively.

Watching Watkins and Toney trying in vain to communicate to Pickford to direct his long balls in their direction was amusing.

These must be some of the most laughable player ratings I have ever seen… and I have seen many over the years.

And some of the write-ups appear to have been done by a ten year-old child on a sugar rush.

I watched the Tour de France highlights, switched over, saw Spain’s first goal, went to bed.

Would he have said the same if England won?

Of course not, but he’d be high on adrenaline and enjoying the moment. The fact is, he’s right. There’s too much football and they just keep adding games and tournaments.

England’s cumulative xG for the entire tournament was 7.5 over 7 matches.

The postives of the Euros, many fans from their respective countries developed friendships with each other. At least the hooligan element didn’t dominate the front pages which is a is good.

This is totally unscientific, but it felt like the England fans improved as the tournament went on. Whether that was because more ordinary people spontaneously decided to come, or because they saw how other fans were behaving, or for some other reason, I don’t know, but it was a good development.

Congrats to Spain, clearly the best squad throughout this tournament. They had to put away Germany and France, the two big favourites of this tournament, and showed their superiority again during that final.

Nevertheless, England gave a good show of themselves too imo. For all the criticism aimed at Southgate, I think he deserves credit for making this team likeable again for neutrals like me, despite of the annoying behaviour of a part of their fans. And getting to two Euro finals and a semi-final at the world cup is not to be scoffed at. It’s fine margins at this level, they could have won a trophy under his watch.

But Spain are deserved winners, well done.
